With the onset of globalization, liberalization and technological market changes, organizations are making many strategic responses by redefining their portfolios, processes, systems and structures. At operational level, these responses are: (i) Portfolio related responses (mergers, acquisitions, demergers, diversification, share buy-back, divestiture, and so on) process related strategic responses (quality strategy, international quality certification, JIT, benchmarking, core competence, etc.) and (iii) structure related responses (strategic business units, matrix structures, and flat organization structures). This well-organized and compact text gives a brilliant analysis of the significance of the HRD system in planning and implementation of strategic responses, focussing on the alignment between strategic responses of organizations and HRD in India~s most valuable companies. The entire theme is presented with the help of exhaustive literature review and is based on empirical study conducted in 59 Indian organizations. The book is unique as it provides overview of 26 strategic responses and the role of HRD in them. The book is profusely illustrated and contains 140 tables, and a fairly large number of figures and boxes, which will enable the readers to grasp the subject with ease. The comprehensive References will be of great help in delving deeper into the topics discussed. Designed primarily as a textbook for postgraduate students of management, and postgraduate diploma students in Business/Human Resource Management, this indepth and fascinating study on strategic human resource development will be highly useful to consultants and practitioners in HRD and all those involved in strategic management/corporate planning.

Drawing on contributions from leading academics in the field, this volume within the Routledge Series in Human Resource Development specifically focuses on Global Human Resource Development (HRD). Specifically, the volume provides an overview of 17 regions, 85 countries and includes one emerging market grouping, CIVETS. This book examines the role of the state in HRD, the relationship between HRD and the level of economic development in the country or region, the influence of foreign direct investment within the country or region, and firm-level HRD practices within countries or regions. Global Human Resource Development analyzes HRD from institutional and cross-cultural perspectives, making it possible, for the first time, to analyze trends across countries and regions and to draw conclusions about the value of institutional and cross-cultural perspectives in the HRD context. There is currently no book on the market that conceptualizes the discipline of global HRD in this way, making this a definitive book on HRD across the globe of particular interest to researchers and reflective practitioners.

Unlike Brazil, India, or China, prior to the beginning of market-oriented reforms in early 1990s, Russia maintained a high level of human capital and possessed a highly developed system of vocational education, continuous education, and management development institutions sponsored by the government. However, after the beginning of the market reforms many state-sponsored programs were disbanded and individual enterprises and newly emerging private educational institutions found themselves in a position of having to provide training and professional development services for future and current employees. Both government-level policies in support of HRD and enterprise-level HRD systems have emerged fairly recently in the Russian Federation, and are still in a stage of change and development. This book provides an in-depth analysis of the current state of HRD in the Russian Federation. It covers country-level policies, organizational-level programs and strategies, and individual-level educational and training efforts. While the study is focused on Russia, its conclusions will be of value to scholars, students, and practitioners examining similar issues surrounding the emergence and development of HRD systems in emerging countries. Furthermore, the authors’ framework for analyzing HRD on multiple levels and across various parts of the adult and vocational education and development systems offers a unique and important contribution to the theoretical debate on comparative educational systems outside the HRD and HRM communities.

Seminar paper from the year 2005 in the subject Business economics - Personnel and Organisation, grade: Very Good, Turku School of Economics, course: International Business Operations, 24 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Recruitment and selection in International Human Resource Management is crucial; finding the right people to fill key positions can determine a company's international operation. Furthermore, it is extremely costly for the company if the expatriate fails. The performance of an expatriate is often determined by factors like (in)ability to adjust to foreign culture, the length of the assignment, willingness to move and work-related factors. What should be considered when selecting an expatriate are therefore criteria like technical ability, cross-cultural suitability, family requirements, country requirements as well as language and company requirements. However, recruitment and selection are only the first step for international Human Resource Management. The aim of this paper is therefore to point out the increasing importance of Human Resource Management especially from internationally operating companies' point of view. Furthermore, it will be pointed out what International Human Resource Management is and why it is necessary for Multi National Companies (MNCs) to concern about this topic. In addition, challenges and requirements of HRM will be illustrated and highlighted. This work will furthermore portray the recruitment and selection process as well as the necessity of training and development within global companies. It will describe the workplace conflict and deal with subjects such as industrial relations and employment law.

This book presents a novel viewpoint in HR management: in addition to the macroeconomic factors (demographic development, industry 4.0, digitization, etc.) and its micro-political counterparts (shortage of skilled workers, an aging workforce, shortage of MINTs), personnel policy in the highly developed economic regions of the world can increasingly be seen from the third point of view, which is the ego-perspective. The complexity of the economic world 4.0 is manifesting itself for the employees in a working world of unlimited possibilities, offering almost limitless freedom of choice, especially for younger people. Due to this shift in the balance of power, the influence of the employers decreases and is often reduced to countering the pronounced self-confidence of the employees in asserting their expectations with corresponding company incentives. The author emphasizes that dealing with the challenges of this extremely fragile world of work - currently exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic - must by no means be left solely in the hands of overburdened personnel managers. The contribution of the line manager or direct superior is becoming increasingly important. And it is only through close and clearly defined cooperation between the two that the opportunity for effective human resources management lies. This book aims to illustrate this process of division of labor in the individual phases of personnel management.
