This book is about Linsen, who was born in a typical farmer’s family in the southern Yangtze River area in 1900. When he was 5 years old, his father passed away. He had to quit school when he was only 11 to support his family. He inherited a huge amount of debt. Despite drastic regime changes, Japanese invasion, civil war, land reforms, widespread starvation, the upheavals of the Communist and Cultural Revolutions and their dreadful political and economic consequences, he held on to Chinese traditions all his life. He believed that one should live on and get wealth only from his own hard work. By his own efforts, he became a very skilled, knowledgeable, and successful farmer, well respected person by rich and poor people in his town. He was a legendary figure of a grassroots Chinese farmer. He tried his best to resist the destruction of Chinese traditions and culture. Cynically, the final and fatal blow to him was from one of his beloved family members. Some of the dramatic historical and cultural events and information in this book were never before recorded.

'This is a book about real people, real stories, real heroes. You might not know their faces, and you might not know their names - but once you've met them, you'll never forget them.' Ben Shephard is passionate about people - their lives, their stories and their challenges. Presenting one of the UK's most popular TV breakfast shows, Ben frequently meets people with stories that reaffirm our collective faith in humanity. This is a book about those special stories. It is about the real people Ben has met and their real acts of everyday heroism which inspire and lift us all up, even on the gloomiest days. From the old friend running marathons to raise money for children with heart conditions (and roping Ben in with him), to the man fighting for our right to safe housing, to the founder of an equestrian school that helps trauma survivors; these are stories of ordinary people who have taken it upon themselves to make the world a better place. In a world that can feel increasingly complicated and divisive, Humble Heroes is a rousing tonic to remind us of what we can achieve through determination and positivity - and of the essential goodness of human nature.

Humble Hero reveals my father's unusual life of survival. The story of Charles R. (Dinky) Joyner reveals his time as an orphan, street ruffian, lover, and unlikely war survivor and hero. He was the youngest of five children born to Lemuel Joyner and Annie Culpepper in the naval town of Portsmouth Virginia. His mother died when he was a toddler and his father suffered permanent brain injuries from a severe beating. Adopted by his maternal grandparents, the children were quickly dispatched to orphanages. Charles quickly learned the necessity of fighting other boys at Saint Vincent's and Saint Mary's. During these years, despite his small size, he grew into a scrappy fighter. Returning to his grandparents' home he and his brothers were housed in a drafty garage through his teenage years. Charles soon became involved in the mischief of local street gangs and quickly rose to a role of leadership. After several close encounters with crime and the police, his grandmother pulled him out of Saint Joseph's Academy in his second year of high school. Insisting he needed to make money to support the household. After several low paying jobs, his grandparents enrolled him in The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC's). After this rough and tumble experience and seventeen years old he returned to his garage home. By this time, he was convinced life was a "dog eat dog" world and he was now a man. Next, he landed a job at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and moved out of the garage. Through his late teens and early twenties, he continued a life which included "easy" girls, liquor, and association with street thugs. His life turned when he met Catherine Lee Williams and faced military service. He was married in May of 1941 and within two weeks went off to the Army. In the military he was used as a light truck driver and was shipped to the Philippines in the Fall of 1941. Within weeks, the Japanese bombed his posts at Clark and Del Carmen airfields and quickly mounted an aggressive assault of the Islands. With others he was ordered to the Bataan Peninsula where he became a combatant. When American Forces surrendered, he among thousands of other Filipino and American "Battling Bastards of Bataan," began the infamous nine-day Bataan Death March. During this grueling ordeal he witnessed incredible scenes of suffering and death and began to regain his Christianity. He was imprisoned less than two weeks at Camp O'Donnell before he and several buddies were chosen to be human pack animals. Their job was to haul huge boxes and bails of supplies to enemy outposts deep in the mountains and jungles of Luzon. After several grueling weeks he and three buddies boldly escaped this detail into the Philippine outback. Charles and his comrades became guerrilla fighters until a betrayal caused his war buddy, Tom Pasquel, recapture by enemy forces. Alone, he wandered until he entered a barrio of headhunters who wanted to take his head. A lone villager, Matias Badang, argued to save his life and hid Charles in the remote mountains. There he lived in isolation for over a year and learned the primitive skills of surviving in the wild. Also, he began suffering the effects of tropical diseases and hazards of dangerous wild animals. When the enemy retreated the local area, Charles rejoined guerrilla forces and received field promotions before medical evacuation. Back home he was hailed a survivor and hero. In his new life he embraced family, faith, and flag forever more.

A wife tells of her husband’s combat missions—and the Agent Orange exposure that changed both their lives. Through her husband’s letters from Southeast Asia about his combat missions in Vietnam and over the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Laos in 1971 and 1972, Marge Hansen shares a gripping journey into one of the most divisive and turbulent periods in the nation’s history. Brave Warriors, Humble Heroes: A Vietnam War Story captures in a flier’s words the conflict, drama, frustration, heroism, and longing for home and family that mark combat missions. Through meticulous research and compelling narrative, Marge brings to readers a chance to understand what may have been only an ongoing headline in the news for those at home or a distant episode in American history for younger readers. In her voice and Charlie’s, she captures the experience of those who serve and those who support them. For Marge and Charlie, the war was immediate and personal and has not ended; both were impacted by the legacy of Agent Orange—he from his assignment to front-line bases and she from her visit to him at one of those bases. Brave Warriors, Humble Heroes recounts the story of one war, one hero, one marriage, and one family. This book stands for all those whose voices have not been heard.

Looking Upon The Heart written by Pete Carlson, MFT and has been published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-06-09 with Psychology categories.

BY LOOKING UPON THE HEART WE CAN ALL BE CHANGED IN AN INSTANT AND LIVE LIFE MORE ABUNDANTLY! The mystery of the biblical heart is unveiled by integrating psychology and Scripture to delineate the five dispositions of the heart, the choice of which we morph into could either enhance or hinder the attainment of abundant life in Christ. Throughout time, people have been searching for the meaning of life and the way to find fulfillment. It is the intention of this book to show how, by Looking upon the Heart, where Jesus may live, we can actualize healing and holiness at any moment in time. In this in-depth, Christian psychology and self-help/textbook, the reader is enlightened as to what good and bad choices we can make about our character and personality; the goal is to consistently be transformed (morphed) out of the unhealthy dispositions of the heart (the broken heart and the hard heart) into healthier ones (the open heart, sweet heart, and the brave heart). Our first basic premise is that we all, believers and unbelievers alike, can and do spontaneously morph continually in and out of various dispositions, character states and personality styles, and so are capable of immediate transformation. The second premise is that grace must prevail; we all would be hypocrites if we judged, because we are all morphing, having our good moments and bad, at any particular moment in real time. Ultimately the overall perspective is that the heart should be the most important human entity known to man. The heart is the primary gatekeeper and decision-maker and, therefore, the overall determiner of the whole person's behavior, personal growth, and spiritual maturity. We are to embrace a complete understanding of the biblical heart, its five dispositions, in order to overcome psychological, behavioral and relational dysfunction and sin. Only then can we successfully and consistently experience oneness with God through Jesus, living and actively operating within our hearts. As a result of "Looking upon the Heart," the Lord reigns and leads us to a life of victory in Jesus.
