La presente obra se deriva del proyecto de investigacion "Inventario de humedales de la subcuenca San Pedro y alternativas para su manejo y conservacion en funcion de las tendencias de cambio de usos de suelo y patrones de escurrimiento" (FONSEC CNA 48216). De este proyecto resulto una metodologia que sirve de base para analizar la hidrologia a nivel de cuenca y los posibles efectos que su modificacion puede tener sobre los humedales costeros. Adicionalmente se propone un sistema de clasificacion de humedales, modificado para incluir a los humedales mexicanos, que por sus caracteristicas es util para fines de inventario y monitoreo al integrar en su esquema, aplicaciones de percepcion remota y sistemas de informacion geografica. Se concluye con los resultados del inventario de los ecosistemas clasificados de acuerdo al esquema propuesto y con un catalogo de la flora asociada a estos importantes ecosistemas. Aunque el ambito geografico al que hace referencia la obra, es limitado, la relevancia de Marismas Nacionales como uno de los sistemas de humedales mas importante del Pacifico Americano y la pertinencia de la metodologia, hacen de la presente, una obra de consulta y referencia."
