It will be difficult to find an ophthalmic surgeon who will gladly do his work entirely without viscoelastics. Within just a few years this group of substances has enlarged the field of ophthalmic surgery enormously. Many procedures have be come safer and simpler and other techniques could only be developed because of the availability of visco elastics. Especially cataract surgery and implantation of intraocular lenses have benefitted. Implantation of an intraocular lens can be per formed much more reliably into the capsular bag without endangering the posterior capsule. Implantation of foldable lenses would be almost impossible without visco elastics. However, other surgical maneuvers also necessitate visco elastics, especially when the anterior chamber must be maintained, the corneal endothelium must be protected and delicate tissues must be manipulated. A cor neal transplant can be sutured safely into the recipient corneal ring using visco elastics. Even in glaucoma surgery, visco elastics gain importance as they are being used in trabeculectomy or in deep sclerectomy with additional viscocana lostomy. But which substance is best for which purpose? Just as much as a basic phar macological knowledge is necessary for a rational use of drugs, in-depth know ledge of physicochemical properties and objective investigations are prerequi sites for a logical selection of visco elastics from an ever increasing number of available substances. Nonsurgical Lip And Eye Rejuvenation Techniques written by Gabriella Fabbrocini and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-08-04 with Medical categories.

This book offers clinical physicians and plastic surgeons a detailed and comprehensive overview of the nonsurgical techniques used for rejuvenation of the lips and eyes. A key aim is to provide practical guidelines for patient selection in order to optimize the choice of treatment in different circumstances. These guidelines will assist in ensuring that the selected rejuvenation technique and the number of applications are appropriate to the specific disorder being treated, thereby maximizing benefits and minimizing side effects. The book explains pretreatment evaluation and describes a wide variety of rejuvenation techniques, including the use of hyaluronic acid fillers, botulinum toxins, skin needling, chemical peels, radiofrequency, ultrasound, and fractional lasers (ablative and nonablative). Contraindications to and complications of the various treatments are clearly identified. A notable feature is the emphasis placed on the role of combined treatments and how they can work in a complementary way to deliver optimal outcomes. The integrated, less invasive approach to periorbital and lip rejuvenation described here by acknowledged experts in the field will enable practitioners to choose with confidence the best aesthetic procedures and innovative tools for their patients.

Academic Paper from the year 2023 in the subject Medicine - Pharmacology, Pharmacy, , course: M.Pharmacy, language: English, abstract: Ocular drug delivery plays a vital role in the treatment of various eye diseases and conditions. The unique anatomical and physiological characteristics of the eye pose significant challenges for effective drug delivery. Over the years, extensive research efforts have been dedicated to developing innovative strategies and formulations to overcome these challenges and improve therapeutic outcomes. This review provides an overview of recent advances in ocular drug delivery, highlighting the key challenges faced and discussing the potential future directions in this field. The first section of the review focuses on the barriers to ocular drug delivery, including the tear film, cornea, conjunctiva, and blood-ocular barriers. These barriers limit the bioavailability and efficacy of drugs administered to the eye. Strategies to bypass or overcome these barriers, such as the use of penetration enhancers, nanoparticles, and prodrug approaches, are discussed. The second section explores various ocular drug delivery systems, including eye drops, ophthalmic gels, ocular inserts, and contact lens-based delivery systems. Each system is examined in terms of its advantages, limitations, and recent advancements. Special attention is given to sustained drug release systems that aim to prolong drug residence time on the ocular surface and improve patient compliance. Next, the review delves into the role of nanotechnology in ocular drug delivery. Nanoparticles, liposomes, and nanomicelles have shown promise in improving drug solubility, stability, and ocular bioavailability. The use of novel nanomaterials and their surface modifications for targeted drug delivery to specific ocular tissues is also discussed. Furthermore, the review highlights emerging techniques in ocular drug delivery, such as microneedles, hydrogels, and gene therapy-based approaches. These technologies offer exciting prospects for precise and personalized treatment of ocular diseases. Finally, the review concludes by discussing the regulatory considerations, safety aspects, and clinical translation of ocular drug delivery systems. The importance of collaboration between researchers, clinicians, and regulatory bodies in advancing this field is emphasized.
