Hypnosis In Therapy written by H. B. Gibson and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991-01 with Psychology categories.

This book covers a comprehensive range of the applications of hypnotic techniques in therapy for psychological disorders, and medical conditions where such techniques are a valuable adjunct. In recent years psychologists, medical doctors, dentists and allied professional workers have come to make increasing use of hypnosis in their work, and there is now a considerable amount of relevant research literature available in journals. Such literature is reviewed, and serves as a practical guide for professionals. The book begins by explaining what is meant by hypnosis today, and traces its historical background. Some fundamental questions such as individual differences in susceptibility to hypnosis are discussed in relation to therapy. Separate chapters are devoted to the key topics of behaviour therapy, different forms of psychotherapy, psychosomatic medicine, the treatment of pain, and applications in medical and surgical procedures. The modern status of hypnotic techniques in obstetrics and in dentistry is reviewed, and a separate chapter on the use of hypnosis with children will be of special interest to educational and clinical psychologists. A final chapter reviews the use of hypnosis by various professions and para-medical disciplines, and discusses the possible abuses that may arise both through unqualified people seeking to practice "hypnotherapy", and by professionals acting outside their proper range of competence.

During the International Congress for Hypnosis and Psychosomatic Medicine, held in Paris from April 28th to 30th 1965 under the patronage of the W orld Federation for Mental Health, about one hundred papers were presented and the following panel discussions held: Electroencephalography and Hypnosis, chairman Prof. H. FISCHGOLD (Paris); The Teaching of Hypnosis, chairmen Dr. C. CEDERCREUTZ (Hamina) and Dr. H. RosEN (Baltimore); Hypnosis and Pain, chairman Dr. M.H. ERICKSON (Phoenix); Hypnosis and the Psychotropic Drugs, chairman Dr. B.B. RAGINSKY (Montreal). The official languages of the Congress (German, French and English) were not always the speakers' mother tongues. A certain amount of editing was therefore necessary before publication, and this retarded the printing. Approximately half of the papers appear in this volume. We wish to thank the following organizations for the help they granted the Congress. Of Hypnotic Phenomena In Psychotherapy written by John H. Edgette and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-06-17 with Psychology categories.

Despite their clinical utility, hypnotic phenomena are vastly underutilized by therapists in their work with patients. Whether this is due to uncertainty about how to use specific techniques constructively or how to elicit particular phenomena, or anxiety about not being able to obtain a desired result, this volume will guide hypnotherapists toward higher levels of clinical expertise. By describing varied hypnotic phenomena and how they can be used as vehicles of intervention, The Phenomenon of Ericksonian Hypnosis takes the therapist beyond these fundamental applications toward a broader, more sophisticated scope of practice. This immensely readable book addresses the selection, eliciting, and therapeutic use of hypnotic phenomena that are natural outgrowths of trance. It offers step?by?step instruction on eliciting age progression, hypnotic dreaming, hypnotic deafness, anethesia, negative and positive hallucination, hypermnesia, catalepsy, and other hypnotic phenomena. The book includes specific instruction on how to use the phenomena manifested in trance to provide more effective treatment. Numerous case examples vividly illustrate intervention with anxiety disorders, trauma and abuse, dissociative disorders, depression, marital and family problems, sports and creative performance, pain, hypersensitivity to sound, psychotic symptomatology, and other conditions. The Phenomenon of Ericksonian Hypnosis will be used by therapists as a valuable clinical tool to expand their conceptualizations of hypnosis, and thus enable them to offer a wider repertoire of skills with which they can confidently treat clients.

What Is Hypnosis written by François Roustang and has been published by Versilio this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on with Psychology categories.

Long misunderstood as a harmless parlor trick or as a tool of manipulation, hypnosis has emerged to become a respected part of psychotherapy and even as a medical treatment. How did this unexpected transformation occur? The conversation began to change partly thanks to the publication of François Roustang's What is Hypnosis?, possibly the first attempt to accurately define the discipline of hypnosis and document its therapeutic powers. Roustang starts by describing hypnosis as a state of intense 'generalized wakefulness,' similar to the deep REM sleep during which we dream. Just as this deep sleep is the prerequisite for dreaming, so is the generalized wakefulness of hypnosis necessary for us to see our world through new fresh eyes. As Roustang demonstrates in this powerful and groundbreaking work, practicing hypnosis is a fundamentally optimistic calling, allowing us–through expansive, subtle wakefulness–to learn to trust in and realize our true potential. Hypnosis, in short, is not a passive phenomenon, but an active one, essential to the art of living. This new edition also includes a foreword by practitioner Léonard Anthony, a friend of François Roustang, who shares insights from their conversations during the final years of Roustang's life (excepts from these revealing discussions are also included). * François Roustang (1923-2016) was a noted French psychoanalyst, hypnotherapist and philosopher. He taught at Johns Hopkins University as a Visiting Professor, as well as Emory University. He was the author of many books in French on hypnosis, including in English Dire Mastery: Discipleship from Freud to Lacan (American Psychiatric Association Publishing), Psychoanalysis Never Lets Go (Johns Hopkins UP), and The Lacanian Delusion (Oxford UP).' He is widely recognized as one of the most original writers in the field of hypnosis. * "François Roustang was first and foremost an extraordinary clinical practitioner, with a passion for healing and great empathy for his patients - something pretty unique in the psychotherapy world." Le Monde. "First a Jesuit, then a psychoanalyst and finally a hypnotherapist, this man who was impossible to classify devoted his practice and his reflection to the mystery of life's." La Croix.

Therapeutic Trances is a manifesto of the fundamental principles and techniques of Ericksonian hypnotherapy. This innovative volume lays out the principles and practice of developing relationships with patients and creating a hypnotic environment in which true healing can take place. The book offers therapists specific questions to ask and practical ideas to pursue, thereby illustrating how therapists may cooperate with clients to translate problems into solutions. Stephen Gilligan synthesizes the approaches of Erickson, Bandler & Grinder, and Bateson to bring a new perspective to the field.
