True Expressions Everyone has their way of dealing with pain or something that occurs in your life. I love the rain, the thunder, and the lightning. I can’t explain fully what it does to me. But that’s when I have my best moments of writing and creativity. One day I stumbled across my tablet with poems in them, and I thought, Wow I have been doing this for some time now. So I put the poems in order of events in my life. When reading these poems, I thought not only did I express my emotions within in my words but that the words spoken are of truth and not of fiction. Struggles of a Poet In each poem I could see and, most importantly, feel my own struggle, and remembering, this was once real, and today I still face struggles of my past. My desire to be heard and my not knowing if one day my poetry could be heard and if somehow my words could help or touch another. Wise words of my late brother, I remember him saying, “Why do you continue to write in those tablets and then put it in the closet? If you don’t ever invest and believe in yourself first, no one else will, and how will you know if you never try?” I give you my poetry, and within that, I give you my life story of how my passion for writing became true expressions of my life struggles.

These poems allow you to take a walk with me through some of my darkest hours. you may feel my pain, understand my struggle, and bear witness to the love that I have. My poems are utilized as a coping skill to push out bottled emotions before the thoughts become a problem. The loss of my mother leads to many suicide attempts. Writing allowed me to relieve the pressure and pain. In many of my poems, I am not glorifying or bragging about my darkest thoughts, pain, struggles, or the things I’ve done. However, I will like for you to understand that if you could look up, you could get up. As dark as I may seem to write, my light is bright. I write to un-bottle my love, my pain, my struggles, and my thoughts. Enjoy.

In the wake of his father’s death, the speaker in Raymond Antrobus’ The Perseverance travels to Barcelona. In Gaudi’s Cathedral, he meditates on the idea of silence and sound, wondering whether acoustics really can bring us closer to God. Receiving information through his hearing aid technology, he considers how deaf people are included in this idea. “Even though,” he says, “I have not heard / the golden decibel of angels, / I have been living in a noiseless / palace where the doorbell is pulsating / light and I am able to answer.” The Perseverance is a collection of poems examining a d/Deaf experience alongside meditations on loss, grief, education, and language, both spoken and signed. It is a book about communication and connection, about cultural inheritance, about identity in a hearing world that takes everything for granted, about the dangers we may find (both individually and as a society) if we fail to understand each other.

Bringing the Shovel Down maps the long and arduous process of being inculcated with the mythologies of state and power, the ramifications of that inculcation (largely, the loss of our humanity in the service of maintaining those mythologies), and finally, what it might mean, what it might provide us, if we were to transform those myths. The book, finally, has one underlying question: How might we better love one another?

Blue Yodel written by Ansel Elkins and has been published by Yale University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-03-01 with Poetry categories.

Originated in 1919 to showcase the works of exceptional American poets under the age of forty, the Yale Series of Younger Poets prize is the oldest annual literary award presented in the United States. Ansel Elkins’s poetry collection, Blue Yodel, is the 109th volume to be so honored. Esteemed poet and competition judge Carl Phillips praises Elkins for her “arresting use of persona,” calling her poems “razor-edged in their intelligence, Southern Gothic in their sensibility.” In her imaginative and haunting debut collection, Elkins introduces readers to a multitude of characters whose “otherness” has condemned them to live on the margins of society. She weaves blues, ballads, folklore, and storytelling into an intricate tapestry that depicts the violence, poverty, and loneliness of the Deep South, as well as the compassion, generosity, and hope that brings light to people in their darkest times. The blue yodel heard throughout this diverse compilation is a raw, primal, deeply felt expression of the human experience, calling on us to reach out to the isolated and disenfranchised and to find the humanity in every person.
