A distanza di circa due secoli dal loro primo insediamento nell’isola troviamo i Greci di Sicilia, i cosiddetti Sicelioti, già impegnati a tramandare ai posteri le vicende dell’isola divenuta la nuova terra patria. La prima figura che emerge dalla tradizione storiografica è Antioco di Siracusa, attivo nel V sec. a. C. Scrisse una storia della Sicilia (dal mitico Cocalo, re dei Sicani, fino al 424/3 a. C.) andata purtroppo quasi completamente perduta. I pochi frammenti rimasti vengono qui presentati (testo greco, traduzione e commento), quale primo componente di una collana di Storiografi Sicelioti Frammentari, raccolti in un unico corpus nella convinzione che, pur non potendosi parlare di una letteratura siceliota tout court, questi scrittori abbiano tuttavia, nella loro sicilianità, un tessuto culturale comune e sufficiente per farli considerare come un gruppo organico.

Dopo Antioco un altro scrittore di Siracusa, Filisto, occupa un posto di rilievo nella serie degli storici greci della Sicilia antica. Definito da Cicerone un piccolo Tucidide per il suo stile e la sua aderenza ai fatti, Filisto compose una Storia della Sicilia (Sikelikà) tanto ammirata e imitata nell'antichità, da essere inclusa nel canone compilato dai grammatici alessandrini, la cui struttura però oggi si può solo in parte ricostruire a causa degli scarsi frammenti pervenutici. Rimane pertanto il rimpianto per la perdita di un'opera così importante, che trattava, in modo particolare, quella fase cruciale della storia della Sicilia che corrisponde al periodo della tirannide siracusana dei due Dionisi.
