Più di trent’anni fa ebbe la fortuna di imbattersi in una ricca messe di casi, in tanti personaggi che volentieri le raccontarono e le mostrarono quello che facevano, tramandando antiche pratiche di medicina popolare che un tempo erano l’unica forma di cura e prevenzione praticata nelle zone rurali della penisola. A quelle testimonianze oggi la Giovetti ne ha aggiunte altre, cercando, come negli anni Ottanta, di farci rivivere l’atmosfera, l’ambiente, di mettere in luce i convincimenti, il carattere, il modo di esprimersi dei diversi guaritori. Nonostante siano passati diversi anni da quella prima indagine e le condizioni di vita nelle campagne siano ulteriormente mutate, esistono ancora le persone in grado di “segnare” e sono tutt’oggi rispettate e consultate da persone di ogni estrazione sociale e culturale.
