This is a book about hope, we all need hope in our lives. Sometimes hope does not seem at all tangible when we are going through storms in our lives and nothing seems certain only more uncertainty. We all need something to believe in to enable us to smile in the face of adversity in my case that something or someone is God. This book of poems is about a relationship with a personal God rather than religion.

Venerated as god and goddess, feared as demon and pestilence, trusted as battle omen, and used as a proving ground for optical theories, the rainbow's image is woven into the fabric of our past and present. From antiquity to the nineteenth century, the rainbow has played a vital role in both inspiring and testing new ideas about the physical world. Although scientists today understand the rainbow's underlying optics fairly well, its subtle variability in nature has yet to be fully explained. Throughout history the rainbow has been seen primarily as a symbol&—of peace, covenant, or divine sanction&—rather than as a natural phenomenon. Lee and Fraser discuss the role the rainbow has played in societies throughout the ages, contrasting its guises as a sign of optimism, bearer of Greek gods' messages of war and retribution, and a symbol of the Judeo-Christian bridge to the divine. The authors traverse the bridges between the rainbow's various roles as they explore its scientific, artistic, and folkloric visions. This unique book, exploring the rainbow from the perspectives of atmospheric optics, art history, color theory, and mythology, will inspire readers to gaze at the rainbow anew. I figure that if I have to endure the worst parts of bipolar disorder, like psychosis, I get to laugh as much as possible along the way. Somewhere Over the Rainbow, I've Lost My Damn Mind: A Manic's Mood Chart is the story of one Millennial's bipolar life, with moments ranging from the ridiculous to the terrifying to the hilarious. Blending pop culture references and cyberspeak with psychiatric terms, it combines the funny, conversational tone of Sh*t My Dad Says with a nonlinear narrative structure similar to that of Manic. The book began as a blog: if you had a delusional relationship with Britney Spears, wouldn't you brag about it to the entire world? To create the book, I organized the blog entries like a mood chart, a therapeutic tool which assigns colors of the rainbow to states of mind. The entries are divided into three sections, Depressed, Normal and Elevated, and cover the past three years: my psych ward getaways, my vision of fighting alongside Jesus at Armageddon, my attempts to find a woman who accepts that I sometimes lose my mind. Therapy "sessions" with a fictional psychiatrist provide my present-day reflections on each entry. (I had to create my ideal shrink because I tend to fight with the real ones.) Somewhere Over the Rainbow will be the first humorous memoir about bipolar by a member of the Millennial Generation-today's young adults. Because it doesn't follow the usual narrative format, the reader can flip through at random or take the traditional cover-to-cover route. My book's humor, pop culture references and Internet origins will appeal to Millennials, now entering their twenties and thirties, as well as younger Gen Xers. More than an account of coming to terms with a mental health condition, it's a story of being young and feeling lost, dealing with heartbreak and still finding plenty to laugh about, no matter what happens.

THE HOTLY ANTICIPATED SEQUEL TO THE NO. 1 BESTSELLER CARRY ON Simon Snow is back and he's coming to America! The story is supposed to be over. Simon Snow did everything he was supposed to do. He beat the villain. He won the war. He even fell in love. Now comes the good part, right? Now comes the happily ever after... So why can’t Simon Snow get off the couch? What he needs, according to his best friend, is a change of scenery. He just needs to see himself in a new light. That’s how Simon and Penny and Baz end up in a vintage convertible, tearing across the American West. They find trouble, of course. (Dragons, vampires, skunk-headed things with shotguns.) And they get lost. They get so lost, they start to wonder whether they ever knew where they were headed in the first place. With Wayward Son, Rainbow Rowell has written a book for everyone who ever wondered what happened to the Chosen One after he saved the day. And a book for everyone who was ever more curious about the second kiss than the first. It’s another helping of sour cherry scones with an absolutely decadent amount of butter. Come on, Simon Snow. Your hero’s journey might be over – but your life has just begun.

She was arrested in the Berkeley Free Speech Movement. She was at the Be-In when Timothy Leary told us to drop out. She was in the battle of People's Park when James Rector was killed. She was tear-gassed on campus at UC Berkeley. She was at Altamont when a Hell's Angel murdered a concertgoer. Now she has written her autobiography, describing her unusual trajectory through an unusual era. In the spirit of Howard Zinn, Jentri Anders presents her life as an activist and anthropologist. A Southerner with deep roots in Georgia and Arkansas, she went to high school in Groveland, Florida, one of the most notorious locations in black history. Expelled from both a Georgia Bible college and Florida State University for political reasons, she moved to California, participated in the antiwar movement there, then was sexually and politically harrassed out of UC Berkeley. She dropped out of mainstream culture to become a back-to-the-land hippie in what is now called the Emerald Triangle in Humboldt County, California, then dropped back in, wrote the definitive ethnography of back-to-the-land hippies, and was featured in the Academy Award-nominated documentary film, Berkeley in the Sixties. A fascinating writer, Anders is also a scholar. Drag Me Out Like a Lady is thoroughly researched, indexed, referenced, and documented, including historical material from her personal files. Cultural historians, anthropologists, activists, feminists, literate hippies, as well as people who just like weird stories, will all love this book
