Learn to communicate with your dog—using their language “Good reading for dog lovers and an immensely useful manual for dog owners.”—The Washington Post An Applied Animal Behaviorist and dog trainer with more than twenty years’ experience, Dr. Patricia McConnell reveals a revolutionary new perspective on our relationship with dogs—sharing insights on how “man’s best friend” might interpret our behavior, as well as essential advice on how to interact with our four-legged friends in ways that bring out the best in them. After all, humans and dogs are two entirely different species, each shaped by its individual evolutionary heritage. Quite simply, humans are primates and dogs are canids (as are wolves, coyotes, and foxes). Since we each speak a different native tongue, a lot gets lost in the translation. This marvelous guide demonstrates how even the slightest changes in our voices and in the ways we stand can help dogs understand what we want. Inside you will discover: • How you can get your dog to come when called by acting less like a primate and more like a dog • Why the advice to “get dominance” over your dog can cause problems • Why “rough and tumble primate play” can lead to trouble—and how to play with your dog in ways that are fun and keep him out of mischief • How dogs and humans share personality types—and why most dogs want to live with benevolent leaders rather than “alpha wanna-bes!” Fascinating, insightful, and compelling, The Other End of the Leash is a book that strives to help you connect with your dog in a completely new way—so as to enrich that most rewarding of relationships.

“P.S. I Love You More Than Tuna is both a lighthearted celebration of the loving bond between human and cat, and a touching meditation on the eternal nature of that love.” —Jackson Galaxy, host of Animal Planet’s My Cat From Hell An illustrated gift book for adults grieving a companion cat, celebrating the often-quirky bond between humans and felines. Our cats occupy a unique space in our hearts. When they’re gone, the loss can be devastating, the grief profound. P.S. I Love You More Than Tuna gives us an opportunity to give friends, loved ones, or ourselves tangible comfort during the grieving period, when so many of us feel isolated and misunderstood after a beloved pet dies. The author and illustrator (devoted cat lovers themselves) offer this book as a universal love letter from the felines we've bid goodbye to. It celebrates the special bonds we forge with our four-legged companions and reminds us that their love for us—and ours for them—need never end.

Hundreds of businesses have customers who admire them, but only an elite few have true advocates— passionate, loyal, vocal fans—who rave about them to anyone who will listen. Jeanne Bliss, who served as a senior customer executive at five major companies, says there’s no shortcut to becoming beloved—you can’t hire a fancy marketing firm to get there. You earn it by how you decide to run your business—as Wegman’s and Harley-Davidson have for decades and as relatively new companies like Zipcar and Zappos are doing right now. After studying and working with dozens of beloved companies, Bliss has identified five key decisions that lead to customer devotion: • Decide to believe • Decide with clarity of purpose • Decide to be real • Decide to be there • Decide to say “sorry” Her examples and advice will help readers sustain growth and profit even in a tough economy.

'Utterly compelling' Telegraph 'Science finally reveals the dog's secret: the unique capacity for love that separates them from all other animals. Superb' - John Bradshaw, bestselling author of In Defence of Dogs and Cat Sense 'If you want to build an even stronger bond with your own dog, this book is a must read' - Victoria Stilwell, author of The Secret Language of Dogs _______ What makes dogs truly special? Why does our relationship with them feel so much more deep and intense than with other animals? Any dog owner knows that the bond with their dog is unique. The unparalleled loyalty and total devotion of a dog seems the stuff of true love - but is this a whimsical construction that bears little relation to reality? Through ground-breaking scientific experiments and eye-opening historical evidence, canine behavioural psychologist Dr Clive Wynne unlocks the secret to our unique bond with dogs: their capacity to love, an unprecedented attribute in the animal kingdom. In Dog is Love, Dr Wynne debunks the myth that dogs possess a unique form of intelligence. Instead, he shows that dogs are able to show sympathy and can respond to human emotions in a way that is truly remarkable. One particularly moving study shows that dogs' and their owners' hearts beat in synchrony, just as the hearts of a loving human couple do. Looking at the evolution of dogs, Dr Wynne points out that it was the wolves' ability to form relationships with mankind, becoming indispensable hunting companions, that enabled the depth of love and affection between dogs and humans that we know today. Dr Wynne shares his experiences of hunting with the Mayangna tribe in Nicaragua and the vital role played by their hunting dogs to shed light on what the early human-dog relationship might have looked like, and explains the science behind what really goes on when a young pup grows up in a human family. This is a delightful, heart-warming and fascinating analysis of the unique bond between humans and dogs, perfect for anyone who shares their home with their dog and wonders just how much they love you. It will change the way you interact with dogs and help you get the best out of them in a way that will be truly life-changing.

The Crane Wife written by CJ Hauser and has been published by Anchor this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-07-12 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

A memoir in essays that expands on the viral sensation “The Crane Wife” with a frank and funny look at love, intimacy, and self in the twenty-first century. From friends and lovers to blood family and chosen family, this “elegant masterpiece” (Roxane Gay, New York Times bestselling author of Hunger) asks what more expansive definitions of love might offer us all. A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR: TIME, THE GUARDIAN, GARDEN & GUN "Hauser builds their life's inventory out of deconstructed personal narratives, resulting in a reading experience that's rich like a complicated dessert—not for wolfing down but for savoring in small bites." —The New York Times “Clever, heartfelt, and wrenching.” —Time “Brilliant.” —Oprah Daily Ten days after calling off their wedding, CJ Hauser went on an expedition to Texas to study the whooping crane. After a week wading through the gulf, they realized they'd almost signed up to live someone else's life. What if you released yourself from traditional narratives of happiness? What if you looked for ways to leave room for the unexpected? In Hauser’s case, this meant dissecting pop culture touchstone, from The Philadelphia Story to The X Files, to learn how not to lose yourself in a relationship. They attended a robot convention, contemplated grief at John Belushi’s gravesite, and officiated a wedding. Most importantly, they mapped the difference between the stories we’re asked to hold versus those we choose to carry. Told with the late-night barstool directness of your wisest, most bighearted friend, The Crane Wife is a book for everyone whose path doesn't look the way they thought it would; for everyone learning to find joy in the not-knowing and to build a new sort of life story, a new sort of family, a new sort of home to live in.

This tale is one of most exciting interest and Mr. Ainsworth has selected a theme rich in remarkable incidents, and which his fruitful fancy has wrought into a picture highly and faithfully illustrative of moral society in the time of the second Charles. The libertine and licentious character of the court at that period is exposed in a manner well calculated to convince the present generation how much princely manners and princely morals will be aped by the attendants of a court and spread themselves throughout the less elevated ranks of society. We have always thought that the works of Mr. Ainsworth, from being addressed so pointedly and directly to the feelings, and not so exclusively to the simple fantasia and imaginative of the mind as some other popular writers of his time, that they were therefore so much better calculated to convey lasting impressions to the reader and carry with them a power of moral sentiment in depicting vice, and deploring its dreadful consequences , which can never attend anything which is a mere display of ideality. In the present work the author has given powerful evidence of his particular kind of talent. From the glowing and animated description of the grocer of Wood Street and his family to the pictures of the monarch and his associates , there is a highly interesting portraiture of character, and in many places where other authors would have made nothing of the subject, or perhaps left it altogether untouched, such as in the scenes connected with the pesthouse and the other miseries of the plague, he has, by introducing them, developed some of the most touching appeals to the feelings to be anywhere met with. A less skillful master might have been unable to introduce such topics without harassing the feelings and would have left them untouched, but Mr. Ainsworth has given to them an importance and tragic truth which render them essential to the character of the tale.
