Quando Gianpaolo Donzelli – che al momento dell’estensione del libro era presidente della Fondazione dell’Ospedale Pediatrico Anna Meyer – mi chiese di scrivere un libro sulle molte attività ed esperienze che quotidianamente integrano il percorso di cura dei bambini e dei ragazzi ricoverati, l’impresa mi è sembrata ardua: tante le sollecitazioni, tante le elaborazioni teoriche messe a punto negli anni. Se nel panorama editoriale non mancano pubblicazioni che si occupano dei processi mentali di bambini e adolescenti posti drammaticamente di fronte all’ospedalizzazione, inedito ci è sembrato il tema relativo al ruolo dell’immaginazione. Ed è questo che abbiamo inteso approfondire. Come può infatti la fantasia sopravvivere quando la voglia di giocare, di andare a scuola, di amare o disobbedire è soffocata da qualcosa di invisibile che accade dentro al corpo? Nella realtà di tutti i giorni irrompe il “reale”, hanno sostenuto psicoanalisti di pregio: come mantenere, allora, vivo il pensiero di un bambino o di un ragazzo ricoverato? Come non farlo soccombere allo sconvolgimento del “reale”? Il mio letto è una nave trova in una sorta di principio omeopatico della mente – “curare l’immaginazione con l’immaginazione” – un’angolatura originale dalla quale osservare e rendere condivisibili esperienze concrete nelle quali l’apporto caleidoscopico della cultura si integra ai processi della cura e della guarigione in ospedale pediatrico. Dagli atelier di pittura ai taller di poesia, dalle passeggiate “del silenzio” alle fiabe dal mondo, dall’orto coltivato al giardino in fiore, dai laboratori ecologici al Reparto delle Bambole, la speranza è che il nostro libro sia utile strumento di conoscenza per genitori, medici, personale sanitario, educatori e insegnanti. “Nella collana ‘La cura’, le scienze medico-biologiche, umanistiche, letterarie e visive si integrano per creare una nuova cultura per i pazienti, i professionisti e i cittadini.
