At first I thought that he was referring to other senior police officers at the Yard, but then I realised that "those above" were people that he did not like, people who came from a different social class whom many police officers despised. Over the years, since my conviction for murder of the Soho gangster Gerald Hawley in 1969, pieces of the puzzle fell into place.

I felt as free as abird and being naked and unashamed gave me afeeling of freedom that has been lost by mostpeople on this planet where it is a crime to benaked, the human body seen to be corrupting andinherently obscene by most governments of theworld. Nudity was a crime except in the privacy offour enclosed walls or a special place like thisnaturist camp. It was sad in a way but alsoexhilarating and I noticed that after a while onegot used to the nakedness of others and in mostcases, except of beauty of the human body that itwas un-erotic and again I was surprised at theunattractiveness of most people bodies.
