Cutigliano, piccola frazione di Pistoia, si colloca nel cuore dell’Appennino toscano, area di cui Lipparini era frequentatore abituale e per cui provava un forte legame. Questa raccolta di racconti ambientata in questi luoghi rappresenta una testimonianza unica della montagna di allora, delle sue stagioni, risorse, e della sua gente, descrivendone costumi tipici e lo stile di vita lento e semplice dell’epoca. Dai racconti emerge l’amore che lo scrittore provava per la montagna e in particolare per la sua Cutigliano, che definiva la sua seconda patria. Giuseppe Lipparini (1877 – 1951) è stato uno scrittore e poeta italiano nonché critico letterario; professore di letteratura italiana, ma anche giornalista e presidente dell’Accademia di Belle Arti. Scrisse raccolte di poesie (per citarne alcune: "Sogni", "I canti di Mèlitta", "Le foglie dell’Alloro"); romanzi (tra cui "L’ombrosa", "L’osteria dalle tre gore", "Il signore del tempo"); racconti e novelle come "Il filo d’Arianna", "Calze di seta" e "I racconti di Cutigliano". Lavorò anche a raccolte di articoli, saggi e monografie e numerose traduzioni.
