Entirely original in its methodology, this study offers a fresh approach to the study of Romanesque fa?e sculpture. Declining to revisit questions of artistic personalities, artistic style and connoisseurship, Dorothy F. Glass delves instead into the historical and historiographical context for a group of significant monuments erected in Italy between the last decade of the eleventh century and the first third of the twelfth century. In her reading, local culture takes precedence over names, context over connoisseurship; she argues that it was the cultural, intellectual and religious life of the abbeys of San Benedetto Po and Nonantola that provided the framework for the Reformist ethos of much of the sculpture adorning the cathedral of Modena. Glass argues that the monuments are deeply rooted in the concerns of the reform of the church, more commonly known as the Gregorian Reform, that these reform ideas and ideals were first fomented in monastic communities and then adopted by the new cathedrals built in cities that, freed of submission to imperial German rule, had recently rejoined the papal fold. The Sculpture of Reform in North Italy, ca 1095-1130: History and Patronage of Romanesque Fa?es moves scholarship beyond continuously reiterated opinions concerning style, attribution, chronology, origins and influence, instead opening new and fruitful lines of inquiry into the patronage and historical significance of these extraordinary monuments.

10 settembre 1712: Tommaso Lamperti, caporale dell’Inquisizione accusato di eresia, viene brutalmente interrogato dal suo superiore ma nega tutto e il giorno dopo scompare dalla sua cella ricoperta fino al soffitto da misteriosi graffiti. 8 settembre 1995: trecento anni dopo un ragazzino cade in una voragine apertasi all’improvviso nel terreno mentre cerca un pallone portando alla luce una chiesa sotterranea e la cella che diventeranno un piccolo museo, orgoglio di Roccasperta, immaginario borgo dell’Italia centrale. 15 dicembre 2012: a una settimana dal fatidico 21 dicembre 2012, data della presunta fine del mondo profetizzata dai Maya, Pietro Rocca, conduttore di una trasmissione televisiva dedicata al paranormale giunge a Roccasperta per girare un servizio sulla cella. Il paese, che era già stato in passato teatro della sparizione misteriosa di tre donne, è scosso dalla scomparsa della piccola Stella Morosini e accoglie con diffidenza la troupe. Arianna Luci e Luca Morotti, due sensitivi che collaborano alla trasmissione avvertono oscure presenze confermate dalle registrazioni e dalle riprese video a infrarossi effettuate nei sotterranei. Uno sconosciuto avverte Rocca dei pericoli cui starebbe andando incontro e il mattino dopo viene ritrovato il cadavere di Luca appeso per le braccia nella stanza degli interrogatori dell’Inquisizione. Sul petto ha incisi segni in apparenza indecifrabili. Non trovando alcun aiuto dal burbero maresciallo capo dei carabineri che cerca di incolpare dell’omicidio Francesco Tucci, leader dei metallari del Collettivo Death Metal, Pietro decide di coinvolgere l’amico Giancarlo Mari, docente di simbologia medioevale e massone che lo raggiunge e inizia a indagare. Scoprirà ben presto che il caso di Tommaso Lamperti venne insabbiato all’epoca ma che qualcuno recentemente se n’è interessato consultando documenti trafugati dall’Archivio segreto vaticano. Le sue scoperte lo portano ad una morte orribile. Nonostante la disponibilità del capitano dei carabinieri Missoni, Pietro e Arianna sono soli contro tutti e per sciogliere il mistero dovranno contare sull’aiuto dei ragazzi del Collettivo e sullo sconcertante messaggio lasciato dal professor Mari prima di morire.

Archeologia delle risorse nella montagna mediterranea, Atti del Convegno (Borzonasca, 20-22 ottobre 2011), a cura di Anna Maria Stagno Questo volume riprende una delle proposte fondanti dell’archeologia postmedievale italiana: l’archeologia delle risorse ambientali. A partire da oggetti concreti – le montagne e le pietre incise appunto – e attraverso punti di vista eterogenei, i contributi offrono un’ampia rassegna di metodi e percorsi di ricerca, ampliando la discussione a una riflessione sui paesaggi culturali e sui problemi della loro patrimonializzazione. Il volume si caratterizza per il taglio fortemente diacronico (dalla preistoria al XXI secolo) e il confronto tra discipline e procedure di ricerca. L’approccio non è nuovo per la rivista e, in particolare, rimanda al numero 6 (L’approccio storico ambientale al patrimonio rurale delle aree protette) che già aveva proposto alla ricerca archeologica “convenzionale” i temi dell’archeologia ambientale e dell’ecologia storica. Il monografico raccoglie i risultati dell’International Workshop on Archaeology of European Mountain Landscapes (Borzonasca, GE, 20-22 ottobre 2011), promosso dal Laboratorio di Archeologia e Storia Ambientale dell’Università di Genova e finanziato dal Parco Naturale Regionale dell’Aveto.
