Among the 20 to 30 million Igbo people in Nigeria there is a widespread belief that the Igbo originated in ancient Israel. Recently a number of Igbo Jewish communities have been established in Nigeria. Although some Igbo have made their way to Israel, the Israeli public is largely unaware of the fact that that there are in addition of 20 to 30 million people in Nigeria that are called by some, 'the Jews of West Africa.' This book offers for the first time an in-depth study and a genealogical history of the Igbo's long term narrative of a possible Jewish origin.

William Miles has spent over three decades conducting research in West Africa. The question of origins of many African peoples and in particular the majority of Nigerians have been in doubt. The Yoruba, Igala, Idoma, Igbo claim decent from Middle East or Yemen. Others do claim their origin from Egypt and Ethiopia or Congo. Historically, most of our languages here are that of the Kwa group of Congo basin. The Igbo all along do believe and openly proclaim that they are of Jewish origin from the lineage of Gad whose one of his sons was Eri. That linkage still needs further proof and evaluation to convince everybody. This knowledge of our roots will help us to live a life worthy of our existence as grand and great grandchildren of our forefathers. This knowledge is borne in the minds of a group of people that do carry out such acts like massacre or ethnic cleansing against their fellow countrymen or neighbors, because they believe that the other groups are not from their race. Then, follow me as we go into tracing the origin of Igala, Idoma, Igbo, Jukuns (Apa) Yoruba and southern people of Nigeria linked to Jewish people of Israel. Please permit me to state here that, the inspiration to write this book came when at the Glory Dome; Dr. Paul Enenche read from the book of Micah 5: 2 "But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.Where I heard about Bethlehem-Ephrattah for the 1st time that made any meaning to me.. Another time he read from the Bible, when again I heard about Idumea. Yet again was another occasion at the Glory Dome where he, the Senior Pastor Dr. Paul Enenche started asking the congregation how they call 'Satan' in their various languages. And the congregation gave different names of Satan in their tongues while Idoma, Igala call Satan 'Ebili' and that is same in Spanish language, and it is "Ibliss" in Arab language. That broadened my thoughts on the fair universality of Igala-Idoma languages.

Black Jews In Africa And The Americas written by Tudor Parfitt and has been published by Harvard University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-02-04 with Social Science categories.

Black Jews in Africa and the Americas tells the fascinating story of how the Ashanti, Tutsi, Igbo, Zulu, Beta Israel, Maasai, and many other African peoples came to think of themselves as descendants of the ancient tribes of Israel. Pursuing medieval and modern European race narratives over a millennium in which not only were Jews cast as black but black Africans were cast as Jews, Tudor Parfitt reveals a complex history of the interaction between religious and racial labels and their political uses. For centuries, colonialists, travelers, and missionaries, in an attempt to explain and understand the strange people they encountered on the colonial frontier, labeled an astonishing array of African tribes, languages, and cultures as Hebrew, Jewish, or Israelite. Africans themselves came to adopt these identities as their own, invoking their shared histories of oppression, imagined blood-lines, and common traditional practices as proof of a racial relationship to Jews. Beginning in the post-slavery era, contacts between black Jews in America and their counterparts in Africa created powerful and ever-growing networks of black Jews who struggled against racism and colonialism. A community whose claims are denied by many, black Jews have developed a strong sense of who they are as a unique people. In Parfitt’s telling, forces of prejudice and the desire for new racial, redemptive identities converge, illuminating Jewish and black history alike in novel and unexplored ways.

Nigerian Gods written by Erubu Otobo and has been published by African Books Collective this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-05-05 with Social Science categories.

Nigerian Gods is an enlightening and sobering review of the impact of the introduction of the three main Abrahamic religions on Nigeria's traditional religions, culture and way of life, viewed through the prism of its eleven largest and two of the smallest ethnic groups. Kome Otobo, gives here a factual and acute description and presentation of the main characteristics of the major ethnic groups in Nigeria - historical background and socio-political structures, demography, traditional religions, differing impacts of Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and major occupations and modes of existence - which should serve to propel all to a fuller assessment of the complexities of the directions which a Post-Covid-19 World is tending rapidly, ethnically and racially exploited differences jumping to the fore to question erstwhile dominant political ideologies and political arrangements based on them.
