Shawn Hennings new book is a powerful and overwhelming tribute and legacy to Michael Jackson. In one book, hes collected love letters, reflections, eulogies, poems, essays and drawings from people throughout the world who have a special appreciation for the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. I was particularly impressed at the diversity of material, from so many different countries and cultures all of it heartfelt and illuminating. In We Love You More, we learn about the many different ways that Michael Jackson affected people from all walks of life. The participants talk about how Michaels music, creativity and pubic example affected their lives and helped them to be better people. The contributions are a wonderful cathartic output to help to come to terms with the loss of Michaels huge talent. They will not only comfort those who have written them, but those who read them. People will learn about the experiences they have in common, with people throughout the world, who followed Michaels career, his music, his good deeds and the example he set for this generation and generations to come. The book will also be of comfort to Michaels own family. They will see that the spirit of Michael will continue in people everywhere and in many ways and for many reasons. Its also fascinating to learn what people have to say about different songs and what they meant to their lives. Im impressed by the diverse elements in the book from eulogies, to memories to poems and beautiful drawings and paintings and even photo montages at the end. Mr. Henning youve done a wonderful service to the Michael Jackson fan community and I commend you. Sincerely yours, Larry Nimmer

A vibrant portrait of American swimmer Michael Phelps—the dominant athlete at the 2004 Olympics—who has relentlessly pushed himself, promoted his sport, and appears poised to ultimately accumulate the most gold medals in Olympic history Before he was old enough to have a driver's license, Michael Phelps had a world record. Before he ever took a college class or turned 20, he had earned distinction by winning 8 medals—6 gold and 2 bronze—at the Athens Olympics, the most in non-boycotted Games. Along the way, he captivated an American television audience and confounded the critics who questioned his ambition. Amazing Pace: • provides the most revealing look yet at a young man who became a world-class athlete before he had the chance to grow up—by respected Baltimore Sun journalist Paul McMullen, who followed Phelps's rise from an obscure 14-year-old to the most scrutinized competitor at the world's biggest sporting event • details the plotting of his career, from turning professional at age 16, to the management of the first crises he encountered Paul McMullen's 5 years of observation add dramatic context to the life of a young athlete whose rise to prominence coincided with the tumult of the first Summer Olympics after 9/11. No Olympian has ever earned 10 gold medals in a career, but Michael Phelps is on pace to achieve that milestone at the 2008 Games in Beijing, China.

The First Commentary On Mark written by and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-01-08 with Religion categories.

This book is the first English translation of a text that Michael Cahill identifies as the first formal commentary on Mark's Gospel. Thought to have been written by an early seventh-century abbot, the commentary was for almost 1000 years attributed to St. Jerome and as such exercised incalculable influence on subsequent commentary. St. Thomas Aquinas drew on it freely in his Catena Aurea, for example, as did the highly influential Counter-Reformation commentary of Cornelius a Lapide. Renaissance scholarship demoted the work to the pseudepigrapha of Jerome and it clearly lost status as a result. However, the contemporary recovery of interest in the commentary tradition ensures a welcome for the publication of this translation. Irrespective of authorship, the text is important in the history of biblical interpretation--it is the first commentary on Mark, and has had wide influence in the Latin west. It is written in the allegorical style, and attempts to provide an application of the gospel text to the practice of Christian discipleship. It is characterized by the use of other biblical texts, and through the use of bold face and italics in the translation, the reader is able to see the extent of quotation, paraphrase, and allusion. The extensive notes are designed to provide information on source material and on the author's technique. As the first Markan commentary this text holds a unique place in the history of biblical exegesis. This translation will make it available to scholars who do not read Latin, and will serve as a useful introduction to early and medieval Bible commentary, both in format and content.

An indispensable primary source in the history of Zionism. The First Zionist Congress, held in Basel, Switzerland, in August 1897, was arguably the most significant Jewish assembly since antiquity. Its delegates surveyed the situation of Jews at the end of the nineteenth century, analyzed cultural and economic issues facing them, defined the program of Zionism, created an organization for planning and decision-making, and coalesced in camaraderie and shared aspiration. Though Zionism experienced multiple conflicts and reversals, the Congress’s goal was ultimately realized in the establishment of Jewish sovereignty in Palestine—the State of Israel—in 1948. As Theodor Herzl, the Congress’s principal organizer, declared: “At Basel I founded the Jewish state.” This volume presents, for the first time, a complete translation of the German proceedings into English. Michael J. Reimer’s accessible translation includes explanatory annotations and a glossary of key terms, events, and personalities. A detailed introduction situates the First Zionist Congress in historical context and provides a summary of each day’s events. The Congress’s debates supply a case study in the history of nationalism: they feature imagery and tropes used by nationalists all over Europe, while appealing to the distinctive heritage of Judaism. The proceedings are also important for what they say—and omit—about the Ottoman state that ruled Palestine as well as the Palestinian Arab people living there. This is a foundational primary source in modern Jewish history. “This translation of the protocols of the First Zionist Congress will be of immense benefit to students and scholars of Jewish and Middle Eastern history, nationalism studies, and colonial and postcolonial studies. Reimer’s long introduction is thoughtful and provocative, the translation is faithful, and the notes and biographical dictionary are enormously helpful.” — Derek J. Penslar, Harvard University “This is an important and even fantastic piece of work. Reimer makes an excellent and perhaps understated case for the need for such a complete and annotated translation.” — Michael Berkowitz, author of Zionist Culture and West European Jewry before the First World War
