ICIAM 95 follows the tradition of its successful predecessors in Paris (1987) and Washington (1991). These congresses have set new standards for the exchange and distribution of ideas and methods within the community of applied mathematics. The programme reflects new trends in fundamentals of industrial and applied mathematics and its wide range of applications, in particular to numerical analysis. The trendsetters were Ludwig Prandtl and Richard von Mises, who founded the Gesellschaft f?r Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik (GAMM) in 1922. As a legacy of the founding fathers the society promotes scientific development in all areas of applied mathematics, mechanics, and applied sciences in general; GAMM hosted ICIAM 95.

The International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM) is the worldwide organization of societies which are dedicated primarily or significantly to applied and/or industrial mathematics.
