Die Ideengeschichte der Physik geht neue Wege, indem sie den umfangreichen historischen Stoff nicht additiv darstellt, sondern wissenschaftstheoretisch reflektiert und nach thematischen Leitlinien (Materievorstellungen, Raum und Zeit, Erhaltungskonzepte, Extremalprinzipien, Theorie und Experiment) strukturiert. Damit vermittelt diese Darstellung im historischen Kontext ein tieferes Verständnis des physikalischen Denkens von der Antike bis heute und lotet zugleich die Dimension der Genesis physikalischer Begriffe aus, die in modernen Lehrbüchern zumeist nicht dargelegt wird. Das Credo Kuhns: Wer über die handwerkliche Handhabung von Physik hinausgehen will, muss sich zwingend mit der Frage befassen, was physikalisches Denken ausmacht und wie es entstanden ist. Die vorliegende zweite Auflage wurde ergänzt durch ein Vorwort von Prof. Dr. Oliver Schwarz, der im Institut Wilfried Kuhns forschen konnte und dabei dessen Denk- und Arbeitsweisen kennengelernt hat.

Die Didaktik der Physik ist im deutschsprachigen Raum mittlerweile fest etabliert. Ihre Akteur _innen haben ein Selbstverstandnis als eigene wissenschaftliche Disziplin entwickelt, die eigene Forschungsfelder und -fragestellungen in den Fokus nimmt und mit spezifischen Forschungsformaten und -methoden untersucht. Die Forschungsaktivitat in dieser Disziplin nimmt seit Jahren stetig zu und differenziert sich inhaltlich immer starker aus, so dass es in der Didaktik der Physik kaum noch moglich ist, einen Uberblick uber alle Entwicklungen zu behalten. Zugleich sind die eigenen ideengeschichtlichen Wurzeln dieser Disziplin im aktuellen Forschungsbetrieb nicht mehr sehr prasent. Gerade Nachwuchswissenschaftler _innen sind sie nicht immer bewusst. Als Ergebnis einer uber 3 Jahren dauernden Delphi-Studie legen wir in diesem Band eine Sammlung von Verweisen auf grundlegende und wegweisende Literatur der Physikdidaktik vor, die von Expert _innen jeweils kurz in den wissenschaftshistorischen Kontext eingeordnet werden. Es handelt sich hier nicht um ein Lehrbuch, sondern um eine Ressource, die die die historische Vielfalt physikdidaktischer Denk- und Forschungsansatze kompakt zuganglich macht und die zur Reflexion uber die Fachdidaktik und ihr Selbstverstandnis als wissenschaftliche Disziplin anregen soll. Sie mochte auf sinnvolle und okonomische Weise die historische Werdung der Physikdidaktik nahebringen.

This volume is divided into five parts. The title of the volume refers primarily to part I, which is by far the largest and comprises papers discussing the fundamental questions of biology and related psychological and philosophical problems. Following the reproduction of papers brought to publication by Bohr, there is a separate Appendix to Part I including some of Bohr's most interesting and substantive unpublished contributions in this area. The papers in Part I span the last thirty years of Bohr's life and display his great interest in biological problems and his unremitting efforts to show that biology cannot be reduced to physics and chemistry. Part II contains articles of a more general cultural interest. Some of these show that Bohr regarded the complementary perspective to be of value also outside the scientific sphere. Part III contains the articles Bohr wrote about the great Danish philosopher Harald Høffding. These short papers are presented in a section on their own because of the continuing discussion in the history of science about Høffding's possible influence on Bohr's work in physics and his whole scientific approach. Part IV comprises articles illuminating the history of 20th century physics. Bohr had great veneration for his predecessors and teachers, and he prepared these articles with great care. Part V contains correspondence relating to the material in Parts I through IV. As in previous volumes an inventory of relevant unpublished manuscripts held at the Niels Bohr Archive constitutes an appendix to the whole volume.
