This document was prepared as a guide to Federal field personnel in identifying building retrofit projects with early returns on investments. It was developed as part of the Federal Energy Management Program's effort to provide technical assistance to the Federal agencies. Past experience with building retrofit programs were used as a starting point for the development of this handbook. The information presented in this handbook is also applicable to the non -Federal public sector. The Department of Energy (DOE) would like to express its appreciation to the Department of Defense, the Department of Interior, the General Services Administration, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Veterans Administration, and the other Federal agencies that assisted in the preparation of this handbook. Similarly, DOE would like to express its appreciation to Messrs. Richard M. DeFuria and Jeffery L. Weiler of JRB Associates, Inc., for the development of this handbook. DOE acknowledges the efforts of Messrs. Jean J. Boulin and Harry L. Lane of DOE for their guidance and assistance to JRB inwriting this handbook. Technical monitoring and funding for this revised edition was provided by Argonne National Lab. If you have any questions concerning building retrofit projects or general comments on this handbook, please contact the Federal Programs Office, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Conservation and Solar Energy, Department of Energy, Washington, D.C. 20585.

Development Of Planning And Design Phases Of An Integrative Building Lifecycle Process Model For Advanced Energy Retrofit Projects written by Sreelatha Chunduri and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with categories.

Advanced Energy Retrofit (AER) projects provide an opportunity for significant energy savings for existing buildings. They can reduce the overall environmental impact of existing facilities, while also providing long-term economic savings to the facility owner. The planning and design phases of an AER project play a significant role in defining the success or failure of the project. The process for delivering AER projects can be complex, and it is important to effectively design the delivery process to enable the design solution to effectively reduce energy consumption. This research focused on the development of an efficient and structured process for performing AER projects. It also identified the level of system integration and team collaboration that can occur in retrofit projects that are focused on reducing the energy consumption in existing buildings. A baseline Integrative Building Lifecycle Process Model (IBLPM) for the planning and design phases of retrofit buildings was developed by using literature on building systems and retrofit approaches. The baseline process model was then analyzed and validated using three detailed case studies. Two scales of retrofit projects were chosen for case study project. They included comprehensive and medium scale retrofits that contain scope for team collaboration and building system integration. After performing all the case studies, it was identified that the processes followed by both scales of retrofit projects is similar, although there were clear differences in the level of detail in the activities that were performed on the different scales of projects. A protocol that includes the validation outcomes and the evaluation criteria was developed and used to create the final planning and design phases of the IBLPM. The planning phase process map of the IBLPM gives a high level overview of the activities that needs to be performed by the owner and the project team members. The design phase process map of the IBLPM is more detailed and contains the activities that occur throughout the different phases of the integrative design process. The final outcome, the planning and design phases of the IBLPM, will aid project teams in the implementation of repeatable, consistent retrofit processes, along with the identification of important information exchanges that take place between the project participants. The IBLPM also identifies collaborative activities that need to be performed between a series of defined integrative workshops. This research work also aims to support the United States National BIM Standards initiative by providing an integrative process framework to define and structure different information exchange standards.

Retrofit For Purpose written by Greg Penoyre and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-07-25 with Architecture categories.

Retrofit for Purpose examines a range of state-of-the-art non-domestic retrofit projects. Its chapters explore common challenges, offer practical solutions and provide a clarion-call to architects and clients for better, smarter retrofit. Twelve case studies focus as much on the transformation of usability and image as on the improvements in the energy and resource use of non-domestic buildings. While an essay section places these projects into a wider context, suggesting that despite the importance of sharing and analysing data, there is more to retrofit than just energy efficiency. The authors take a range of other retrofit variables: from client ambition to tenure, budget, use type, age, context, fashion and fiscal arrangements and assess how retrofit can be made affordable, how it fits in with wider government policy and how performance can be measured.
