Bologna. Tra il 1915 e il 1918, Igino Benvenuto Supino (Pisa 1858 - Bologna 1940), docente di Storia dell'Arte presso l'Università, donò al nascente archivio fotografico della Regia Pinacoteca di Bologna - diretta dal neo direttore Francesco Malaguzzi Valeri (Reggio Emilia 1867 - Bologna 1928) - una collezione di circa 500 fotografie. Molte di queste furono impiegate, dallo studioso pisano, per le sue prime pubblicazioni d'arte, edite dai Fratelli Alinari. Il libro è corredato da quarantacinque immagini, e da un estratto della scheda di catalogo del Fondo Malaguzzi Valeri, dal quale provengono le fotografie pubblicate. Tra queste pagine, vorrebbe esserci l'ambizione di mostrare una piccola particella di una materia che si suddivide in Storiografia Artistica e Storia della Fotografia d'Arte. Tali elementi sono strettamente legati dal sapere, dalla cultura, dalla conoscenza di chi è stato in grado di unirli, per creare nuova conoscenza e per renderla condivisibile e aperta.

Transfer, displacement, confiscation, seizure, looting and theft of cultural objects characterize historical and current conflicts of ownership - also in the Alpe Adria region. In an unprecedented transnational, collaborative and transdisciplinary way, the motion of objects across space and time - and their role as symbolic capital - was investigated in a project funded by the EU in the HERA program. Comprehensive studies analyze competing (national) claims, occupation regimes, the mechanics of dispossession and the politics of "safeguarding" objects. Acknowleding diverse views, including the narratives that attribute(d) meaning to gains and losses of cultural assets, the volume presents key examples of coming to terms with the past. Contributions from Austria, Croatia, Germany, Italy, and Slovenia are combined with explorations of the broader context of translocations e.g. in the Czech Republic, providing a more nuanced understanding of unresolved issues of patrimony.

Erstmals publiziert: Der aufschlussreiche Briefwechsel zwischen den Freunden Aby Warburg und Franz Boll. Die Briefe zwischen Aby Warburg und dem Heidelberger Altphilologen Franz Boll - bislang in der Warburg-Forschung wenig beachtet - werden hier erstmals vollständig publiziert. Die Korrespondenz begann 1909 mit einem Brief Warburgs und dauerte bis zu Bolls Tod 1924 an. Aus dem anfänglichen wissenschaftlichen Austausch wurde allmählich eine enge, sich gegenseitig fördernde und stützende Freundschaft. Die Briefe zeigen, wie sich beide Gelehrte für die Offenlegung des Spannungsverhältnisses zwischen Orient und Antike als Schwerpunkt ihres wissenschaftlichen Arbeitens einsetzten, ein Verhältnis, das sie als grundlegend für die europäische Kultur ansahen. Der Briefwechsel schließt daher eine wichtige Lücke in der bisherigen Warburg-Forschung und hilft, die Rätsel um den "Bilderatlas Mnemosyne" zu klären. Die Korrespondenz mit Boll gibt zugleich einen tiefen Einblick in Warburgs Arbeitsweise und ist ein wertvolles Dokument über seine Zeit im Sanatorium in Kreuzlingen. Immer wieder versuchte Warburg, zur Arbeit zurückzukehren, und wandte sich mit Fragen und Bitten an Boll, der sich u. a. zusammen mit Gertrud Bing und Fritz Saxl um die Publikation seiner Aufsätze kümmerte. Schließlich dokumentieren die Briefe auch die Vorgeschichte zu Warburgs letztem Werk: Der Ausstellung über "Sternglauben und Sterndeutung" im Planetarium in Hamburg.
