This book is an account of the cirumstances and the cultural context in which Ignatius constructed what became the historic church order of Christendom. Epistles of Ignatius present a series of letters written by Ignatius of Antioch on his journey to Rome. Instead of being executed in his home town of Antioch, Ignatius was escorted to Rome by a company of ten Roman soldiers. During the journey, the soldiers allowed Ignatius to meet with entire congregations of Christians while in chains and numerous Christian visitors and messengers were allowed to meet with him. These messengers allowed Ignatius to send six letters to nearby churches, and one to Polycarp, the bishop of Smyrna. Ignatius's letters bear signs of being written in great haste and without a proper plan, such as run-on sentences and an unsystematic succession of thought. Ignatius modeled his writings after those allegedly written by Paul, Peter, and John, and even quoted or paraphrased biblical entries by these apostles' works freely. Seven original epistles: The Epistle to the Ephesians The Epistle to the Magnesians The Epistle to the Trallians The Epistle to the Romans The Epistle to the Philadelphians The Epistle to the Smyrnaeans The Epistle to Polycarp, a bishop of Smyrna

"Ignatius of Antioch was the earliest Christian writer to develop a theology of church order and ministry that bears comparison with what became normative in later Christendom as that of bishops, priests and deacons. Allen Brent has produced a new account of the origin of such a concept of ministerial order in the religious cults and civic institutions of the pagan Greek city-states of Asia Minor in the second sophistic."--BOOK JACKET.

The Christology Of Ignatius Of Antioch written by Jonathon Lookadoo and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-08-29 with Religion categories.

The letters of Ignatius of Antioch portray Jesus in terms that are both remarkably exalted and shockingly vulnerable. Jesus is identified as God and is the sole physician and teacher who truly reveals the Father. At the same time, Jesus was born of Mary, suffered, and died. Ignatius asserts both claims about Jesus with minimal attempts to reconcile how they can simultaneously be embodied in one person. This book explores the ways in which Ignatius outlines his understanding of Jesus and the effects that these views were to have on both his immediate audience as well as some of his later readers. Ignatius utilizes stories throughout his letters, describes Jesus with designations that are at once traditional and reinvigorated with fresh meaning, and employs a dizzying array of metaphors to depict how Jesus acts. In turn, Ignatius and his audience are to respond in ways befitting their status in Christ because Jesus forms a lens through which to look at the world anew. Such a dynamic Christology was not to cease development in the second century but continued to inspire readers in creative ways through late antiquity and beyond.

The mission of a seminary must be the training of men for the Office of the Holy Ministry. The sound theological training of future bishops, pastors and deacons is vital for the health of the Church, and if that training is neglected, the Church will suffer both immediately and in future generations. Therefore, the primary work of our seminary is that our seminarians are trained to study the Holy Scriptures, the faithful exposition of the Scriptures contained in the Book of Concord (1580), the Early Church Fathers, and the Orthodox Lutheran Fathers. Upon this foundation is then built a proper understanding and practice of the liturgy and the role of the pastor within his parish and the Evangelical Lutheran Diocese of North America (ELDoNA).
