Pieter Overduin (Rotterdam, 1969) lijdt nu ruim tien jaar aan manisch-depressiviteit. In die periode heeft hij dagboekaantekeningen gemaakt. Korte fragmenten uit zijn dagelijks leven. Indringend, aangrijpend en af en toe ook buitengewoon komisch. Overduin beschrijft hoe de ziekte zich bij hem heeft geopenbaard en de wijze waarop hij er daarna mee is omgegaan. Met heel veel vallen en na geruime tijd toch weer opstaan. Hij laat zien wat het ook voor zijn familieleden betekent, welke effecten de medicatie heeft en hoe hij mede dankzij de medicijnen nu een zelfstandig leven kan leiden. Maar zonder de steun van zijn directe omgeving had hij het niet gered. Ik houd van mijzelf... en dat is wederzijds is heel direct en met veel gevoel voor humor geschreven. Zeer herkenbaar voor degenen die ook aan deze ziekte lijden of mensen in hun omgeving kennen die manisch-depressief zijn. God is in de war, Hij denkt dat Hij Pieter is Voorjaar 2004. Pieter stapt het kantoor van zijn uitgever binnen. 'Ik heb een nieuw manuscript.' 'O nee, Pieter, toch niet weer over manisch-depressiviteit?' 'Jawel.' 'Dan moet het wel heel bijzonder zijn.' 'Dat is het ook.' 'In welk opzicht?' 'Ook betrokkenen hebben hun ervaringen beschreven.' 'Over wat zij voelden en dachten toen jij manisch was?' 'Precies.' 'Dat lijkt me nogal confronterend!' 'Dat is het ook. Lees het maar.' Het is - opnieuw - een bijzonder interessant boek geworden. Pieter beschrijft hierin hoe hij na de publicatie van zijn eerste boek in een manie terechtkomt en zich achtereenvolgens Gandhi en God waant. De ervaringen die zijn familieleden, vrienden en oud-collega´s in dit boek beschrijven, laten ook de andere kant zien, wat het betekent voor de directe omgeving van iemand die manisch-depressief is. Ook zij hebben levenslang. Evenals met zijn eerste boek Ik houd van mijzelf... en dat is wederzijds heeft Pieter ook nu weer kans gezien een boeiend en waardevol document te schrijven. Zeer openhartig en met veel humor.
