Questo libro vuole incoraggiare una più acuta curiosità per “conoscere meglio l'Europa di ieri e vivere meglio l'Europa di oggi”. La ricerca si è trasformata in una caccia al tesoro, alla riscoperta del passato glorioso del borgo di Cesano e di novità storiche francigene. Nel 2007 il XX Municipio di Roma ha individuato la via di Cesano quale alternativa più sicura, rispetto alla Cassia, per i pellegrini della Via Francigena: si tratta della Variante dei laghi, che si diparte da Monterosi, si affaccia sul lago di Bracciano e sfiora il lago di Martignano. La rinnovata presa di coscienza del valore storico-religioso e culturale di Cesano, promosso dalle autorità, si sta verificando grazie all'impegno di molti cittadini. Lo studio scientifico delle vie del borgo e dell'agro veientano conferisce un rinnovato valore alle antiche pietre attraverso documenti, foto e mappe, invitando il lettore a compiere il medesimo itinerario con spirito di riscoperta e di riappropriazione. Adelaide Trezzini, di nascita svizzera, dal 1965 vive a Roma. Nel 1997 organizza a Roma il convegno “Borromini e gli architetti ticinesi a Roma”, ispira il corso di formazione “Patrimoine et Tourisme” all'Università di Ginevra e fonda l'Association Internationale Via Francigena. Dal 2000 al 2007 cura le Guide Topofrancigena e Dormifrancigena per l'itinerario da Canterbury a Roma; nel 2001 riceve il IX Praemium Sancti Benedicti del Rotary International e nel 2004, per la Via Francigena, la menzione di Grand itinéraire culturel du Conseil de l'Europe. Nel 2009 pubblica S. Pellegrino tra mito e storia in Europa. Luisa Chiumenti, architetto libero professionista, si occupa anche di studi storici sul territorio e di viabilità antica (v. la nuova edizione de “La campagna romana antica, medievale e moderna del Tomassetti, con F. Bilancia). Autrice di vari saggi di arte e architettura, cura allestimenti di mostre e collabora con diverse testate giornalistiche.
