Tre giovani promesse americane del rock, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens e Big Bopper, muoiono insieme in un incidente aereo durante una tournée che li vedeva protagonisti. È la data che segna la fine dell’innocenza e della gioia della musica, da lì in avanti ci saranno gli anni ’60 con l’impegno politico, le battaglie per i diritti civili e la guerra in Vietnam. Nel 1972 Don Maclean incide American Pie che racconta proprio lo shock subito nel “giorno in cui morì la musica”. Emiliano Ventura racconta tutto questo e lo riconduce alla realtà italiana, quando all’impegno dei cantautori degli anni ’60 e ’70 subentra il “decennio in cui morì la sigla tv”; il tutto simbolizzato dal 1981, l’anno in cui alla morte di Rino Gaetano corrisponde l’esordio di Cristina D’Avena.

Pamela Gillilan was born in London in 1918, married in 1948 and moved to Cornwall in 1951. When she sat down to write her poem Come Away after the death of her husband David, she had written no poems for a quarter of a century. Then came a sequence of incredibly moving elegies. Other poems followed, and two years after starting to write again, she won the Cheltenham Festival poetry competition. Her first collection That Winter (Bloodaxe, 1986) was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Poetry Prize.

The twelfth-century French poet Chrétien de Troyes is a major figure in European literature. His courtly romances fathered the Arthurian tradition and influenced countless other poets in England as well as on the continent.
