Il volume, intitolato “Tota pulchra. ll tempio dell’Immacolata Concezione in Macerata: restauro della facciata”, nasce dall’intuizione del parroco, don Egidio Tittarelli, di raccogliere una memoria circa il restauro del fronte principale della chiesa, effettuato tra il giugno del 2013 e l’aprile del 2014. Edito dalla Fondazione Mastrocola Edizioni, è stato scritto da Giacomo Alimenti, Luigi Montereali, Stefano Pasquali, Gianfranco Ruffini e Simona Sgrò, ovvero i tecnici e gli operatori che hanno progettato, diretto ed eseguito i lavori. La pubblicazione, con prefazione di Enrico Da Gai, si articola in quattro capitoli. Il primo, con introduzione di Gabriele Barucca, tratta il tempio nella sua globalità, rappresentandone la fabbrica attraverso il rilievo geometrico per un totale di 12 tavole, per poi indagarne i significati simbolici attraverso analisi metrologico proporzionali, numerologiche, iconografiche ed iconologiche, sostenute da un corposo studio sulla produzione letteraria di autori religiosi afferenti a differenti Ordini e Congregazioni tra Sei e Ottocento, ed accompagnate da un nutrito apparato fotografico. La duplice lettura simbolica degli spazi e del nutrito apparato iconografico, vale a dire cosmologica e teologica aprono così la percezione del lettore ad una più intima comprensione del tempio cristiano. Segue l’analisi, introdotta da Pierluigi Salvati, dei materiali e delle tecniche costruttive della facciata, lo studio dello stato di degrado ante operam con l’indagine circa le cause di alterazione, quindi l’illustrazione delle azioni intraprese in fase di restauro. La trattazione, seppur eminentemente tecnica, risulta esposta in maniera fluida, tra l’altro rafforzata dagli scatti eseguiti in cantiere, col procedere dei lavori, in modo tale che il lettore possa idealmente ripercorrere il susseguirsi delle fasi operative. Vengono pubblicati, per la prima volta, due ritratti dei costruttori Pietro Compagnucci e socio, Mariano Capotosti, dei quali in sintesi riportati i cenni biografici, non senza riferimenti all’impresa edile da essi fondata ed accresciuta. Il terzo capitolo, con introduzione di Nicola Mattia, affronta un avvincente studio del florario in facciata. La flora ivi rappresentata è stata infatti documentata fotograficamente, dunque sono state riconosciute le diverse essenze, infine per ciascuna è stato ricercato negli erbari il significato simbolico. Aiuta la lettura dell’abaco floristico un’immagine d’assieme del prospetto con riportata la localizzazione dei vari scatti, per ognuno dei quali poi è stata evidenziata, tramite fotoritocco, la porzione di volta in volta interessata. Conclude la pubblicazione una strutturata cronologia delle fasi edilizie della chiesa, in rapporto allo sviluppo del borgo Cavour, introdotta da Enzo Fusari, dal XVI secolo ad oggi. Particolarmente ragguardevole il fatto che, per la prima volta, sono collezionati in un unico volume i disegni noti circa l’antica Porta Romana della città. In particolare poi se ne segnala uno, inedito, risalente al 1578, rinvenuto dagli Autori presso l’Archivio di Stato di Macerata. Sono ancora presenti gli elaborati di progetto dell’Immacolata, reperiti presso la Biblioteca Comunale di Macerata. Impreziosiscono lo studio numerosi scatti tratti dalle fototeche della Biblioteca Statale di Macerata e dalla Mozzi Borgetti di Macerata. Sono stati inoltre consultati l’Archivio Compagnoni Floriani di Villamagna, l’Archivio Diocesano di Macerata, l’Archivio di Stato di Macerata e la Collezione Privata di Enzo Fusari. Hanno offerto il proprio contributo scientifico: Francesco Carpineti, Claudio Coppari, Giovanni Liverotti, Paolo Marcolini, Laura Mocchegiani, Renato Pagliari, Massimiliano Pavoni e Mariella Troscè.
