Lazio Marche coast to coast vuole essere una guida per chi desideri attraversare il cuore dell’Italia alla ricerca di borghi fermi nel tempo, paesaggi insoliti, montagne, laghi e suggestivi corsi d’acqua. Una viabilità in passato dimenticata offre oggi itinerari di “turismo lento” che permettono di scoprire insolite dimensioni di spazio e di tempo. Si tratta di un percorso che vede come direttrici principali due strade. La prima è la Via Salaria (Strada Statale 4), una delle più antiche vie consolari, costruita in più riprese dai Romani. La strada, che collega da duemila anni Roma con la Costa Adriatica, rappresenta oggi il percorso ideale per riannodare gli antichi legami tra gli abitanti del Lazio e delle Marche. Il suo nome storico, Via del Sale, deriva dallo specifico utilizzo che ne facevano i Romani, quello del trasporto del sale raccolto dalle saline, presumibilmente allocate nelle Marche. La via, che originariamente si diramava fra prati e zone interessate dalla bonifica agraria, parte da una frazione di San Benedetto del Tronto, Porto d’Ascoli, e arriva fino alle Mura Aureliane della Capitale. La seconda direttrice è rappresentata dalla Val Di Chienti (Strada Statale 77), che oggi consente un veloce collegamento con Roma attraverso l’Autostrada A1. Questa via è stata percorsa per anni dai contadini marchigiani che si spostavano, da soli o in piccoli gruppi, verso le pianure comprese fra gli Appennini e il Mar Tirreno, nelle Maremme Toscane e Laziali, nell’Agro Romano, nelle Paludi Pontine e in Campania. Erano piccoli proprietari, coltivatori, coloni, braccianti delle zone più depresse della montagna e della collina, che partivano in autunno e facevano ritorno nel giugno dell’anno seguente. Molti di essi, braccianti o pastori, finirono per stabilirsi a Roma, dove formeranno nel corso degli anni uno dei gruppi regionali più consistenti e con una forte identità; già nel 1901 i marchigiani rappresentavano il 7,6% della popolazione cittadina. Tante le suggestioni: abbazie incastonate tra colline, palazzi nobiliari, piazze che sono gioielli architettonici, castelli imponenti, opere d’arte e musei locali di pregio. Questo percorso permette di esplorare, seguendo le tracce lasciate da due millenni di storia, luoghi inconsueti, posti incantevoli e mete misteriose.
