Italian Abstract: Nello scorso decennio anche in Italia, come in tutti i principali paesi industrializzati, sono cresciuti sia i finanziamenti erogati dalle banche sia il ricorso ai mercati azionari e obbligazionari. La struttura finanziaria delle imprese si è orientata maggiormente verso strumenti di mercato, quali azioni e obbligazioni, sebbene la recente crisi finanziaria globale abbia posto un freno improvviso a queste tendenze, di cui è ancora impossibile prevedere l'esito. Anche prima della crisi rimanevano, tuttavia, differenze nel peso complessivo di questi strumenti nei bilanci delle imprese italiane. Se il grado di indebitamento medio non è sostanzialmente dissimile da quello osservato nei principali paesi industriali, vi sono ampie differenze tra le imprese italiane a seconda della dimensione e della specializzazione produttiva. Le imprese di minore dimensione si caratterizzano, in particolare, per una struttura finanziaria sbilanciata verso i debiti a breve termine - meno adatti a finanziare i progetti di investimento a più lunga scadenza necessari per la crescita aziendale - e a più alto rischio di interruzione. Le piccole imprese sono pertanto mediamente più indebitate e più dipendenti dal finanziamento bancario rispetto alle mediograndi. Considerata l'importanza che esse assumono per l'intera economia italiana, si comprende facilmente l'importanza che riveste nel nostro Paese un sistema bancario in grado di garantire il sostegno necessario allo sviluppo della fitta rete di PMI che caratterizza il nostro paesaggio industriale, all'interno del quale la permanenza di divaricazioni dualistiche assume caratteri sempre più marcati. Al termine di un decennio di intense trasformazioni ci si chiede quali siano i caratteri strutturali del mercato del credito in Italia, così come emergono dal processo di consolidamento iniziato nei primi anni '90, e come sia mutato il rapporto tra banche e imprese nel nostro sistema economico. Diviene quindi cruciale verificare in che misura il nuovo assetto che caratterizza il sistema bancario italiano è in grado di rispondere alle esigenze di un sistema produttivo molto variegato e polverizzato, in cui le imprese minori operanti nel Mezzogiorno si trovano a fronteggiare una difficile situazione in termini di posizionamento sui mercati, che ormai assumono una dimensione globale che accentua in misura significativa le debolezze strutturali che le caratterizzano.

In the current economic scenario, the intangible assets contribute significantly to the construction of the competitive positioning of a company.
