Il libro analizza i problemi gestionali del sito archeologico di Ferento nell'ambito di un progetto di valorizzazione territoriale dell'area di Viterbo e del sistema turistico-culturale locale. Nel disegnare questo percorso, lo studio ha identificato una prima fase, preliminare, rivolta alla riqualificazione del sito archeologico, con l'avvio delle funzioni gestionali di base, manutenzione e promozione, che consentano di restituire il bene alla fruizione pubblica e una seconda fase, a medio termine, durante la quale realizzare un sistema di offerta integrato coordinando il sito di Ferento con le altre risorse diffuse nel territorio. Per avviare un processo di sviluppo autosostenuto che, partendo dalla riqualificazione del sito, punti alla valorizzazione integrata di tutte le risorse culturali, naturali e paesaggistiche che caratterizzano la provincia di Viterbo, appare indispensabile la mobilitazione di soggetti pubblici, come la Regione, la Provincia, il Comune e l'Università e di soggetti privati come gli operatori turistici e l'associazionismo locale. LUIGI MANFRA si occupa di economia internazionale e di economia dei beni ambientali e culturali. Attualmente è responsabile della ricerca e della formazione di Unimed, associazione che raccoglie 80 Università che si affacciano sul Mediterraneo. Ha insegnato politica economica all'Università Sapienza di Roma.
