Religioni e falsi miti hanno costruito da una parte uomini predisposti alla guerra, dall’altra donne votate all’obbedienza. Con Il terzo sesso Ines Testoni si interroga sull’origine di questo scisma di genere, sui sistemi di potere che lo hanno instaurato, e soprattutto sull’idea di subalternità che ha condizionato e piegato – e continua a condizionare e piegare – le vite di donne di tutte le epoche e i continenti. Dopo aver scardinato gli stereotipi legati al «sesso debole», proseguendo nel solco tracciato dalle opere di Simone de Beauvoir e di Simone Weil, l'autrice espone la sua teoria del «terzo sesso»: per vivere il mondo di domani è necessario superare il binarismo uomo/donna, le distinzioni sessuali e linguistiche, e riconoscersi come individui capaci di vivere ed equilibrare al proprio interno le istanze di ambedue i sessi.
