In questo lungo periodo di isolamento, credo che un po’ tutti cerchiamo le nostre radici nel passato. Abbiamo bisogno del conforto della storia dei nostri posti, con tutti i suoi momenti felici e no. Forse è un po’ riprendere tra le mani il filo del tempo, dal gomitolo che era, ormai, caduto al suolo nel frattempo. La mia intenzione è quella di trasmettere vive impressioni che ci facciano sentire partecipi di un passato comune. Molto tempo prima che sorgessero i grandi hotel e iniziasse il turismo, il Tigullio era pervaso dai profumi delle piante e gli abitanti vivevano raccogliendo il corallo dalle trasparenti acque del mare e creavano degli splendidi merletti. Ho scelto i racconti e i diari di viaggiatori stranieri che hanno visitato il Tigullio, per cogliere uno sguardo esterno sulla nostra terra e le sue genti. Ed ho ripreso alcune loro riflessioni di carattere storico in quanto includevano vicende veramente curiose e poco conosciute. Ho prediletto i brani e le pagine che meglio individuassero alcune delle mille sfaccettature della vita quotidiana nel Tigullio tra la metà del XVIIIº secolo e il XIXº. Anche se attraverso le parole dei viaggiatori, ho posto l’attenzione sulle osservazioni attinenti alla popolazione locale: il carattere, le attività, il tratto umano della nostra gente, centinaia di anni addietro. La sfida maggiore, comunque, è stata quella di cercare di trasformare questo materiale storico in un tutto fluente e piacevole, offrendo la scorrevolezza di un racconto tra le terre e le genti del Tigullio che, credetemi, non sono cambiate più di tanto.
