Au-delà d'une vision uniquement visualiste, comment envisager le «double jeu» de l'image, à la fois substitut d'une absence et sur-présence ? Comment l'image comme re/présentation contribue-t-elle à une médiatisation du «soi», de l'«autre» et du «monde» ? Enfin, comment comprendre le lien entre médiation et médiatisation qu'établit l'image en tant que «fiction vraie» ?L'objectif poursuivi dans cet ouvrage collectif est d'inscrire l'opposition entre l'image de soi et l'image de l'autre dans un horizon interdisciplinaire. Par ce croisement de regards est interrogée la médiation/médiatisation de l'image par rapport aux dynamiques qui traversent les interactions intra et interindividuelles, la sphère politique et médiatique de la vie sociale et enfin la production d'artéfacts dans les sphères culturelle et scientifique. Ce questionnement polyphonique permet de mettre en évidence l'apport fondamental de cette double fonction de l'image dans la configuration de l'image de soi par le truchement de l'image de l'autre.Les contributions sont signées par de jeunes chercheurs et des universitaires confirmés qui travaillent dans les domaines des sciences humaines et sociales (sociologie, sciences du langage, sciences de l'information et de la communication), de la littérature française contemporaine, des arts plastiques et de l'histoire de l'art médiéval, mais aussi par un professionnel parfumeur qui a été le nez exclusif d'Hermès pendant quatorze ans.

This dissertation redefines the purpose of one of Jean-Jacques Rousseau's founding texts, The Discourse on the Origin of Inequality Among Men. After offering a close reading of the text and showing Rousseau's account for man's conception of self - a conception that Rousseau says lacks accuracy in civil man - the first chapter attempts to illustrate the origin of a problem. This problem concerns both the impossibility for man to have an accurate vision of himself and the necessity for Rousseau to have recourse to a methodological challenge : to provide a' true' image of man through a hypothetical discourse. The second chapter situates at the heart of the problem the language which man uses and through which he comes to consciousness of himself. This is in the very nature of this language, due to its temporal character, that the problem lies for it is in and through language that man comes to the world and exists. In that respect, what allows man to live in the world prevents him at the same time from being true to himself. Man therefore lives with a false image of self, hence his destructive nature, hence the necessity to come back to the question of man's being in the Discourse above mentioned. The third chapter turns to Rousseau's autobiographical texts and shows how the problem encountered in the Discourse is also to be found in these texts. Rousseau's three- 2 -attempts at writing himself illuminate the difficulty and the impossibility to know oneself through language. This is nevertheless through this medium that the author tries to draw one last image of himself, one that will last to posterity and that he would have created himself. This chapter therefore exposes a link between Rousseau's theoretical and autobiographical texts. The fourth chapter focuses on the solving of the problem. Unable to see himself accurately, Rousseau provides the reader with a new image of himself, one that no one could conceive of and that Rousseau tries to impose. Taking into account the development of aesthetics in the eighteenth-century, this chapter focuses on the reception of the text and the ways through which the text provides man with a new image of self that will replace the previous one. In sum, this chapter highlights how Rousseau is trying to manipulate his reader and, therefore, his goal as a writer. Finally, a fifth chapter focuses on the political aspect of Rousseau's enterprise. It does not only explain why having an accurate conception of self is beneficiary to man and to the establishment of a just society but also the ways in which art constitutes the most appropriate tool for social change. Overall, this dissertation highlights the coherence that exists among Rousseau's texts - theoretical, autobiographical, fictional and political - focusing either on the illustration of the problem, on its solution or both, and that way illuminates Rousseau's purpose as a writer.

Les représentations collectives prennent racine dans la conscience des groupes. L'auteure s'intéresse aux représentations du peuple bulgare relatives à lui-même (auto-image) et aux peuples voisins (hétéro-image). Elle examine l'image que le peuple bulgare se fait de lui-même et de ses voisins, de la fin du XIXe au début du XXe siècle. L'image qu'un peuple se fait de lui-même ne peut être séparée de celle qu'il donne à ses voisins et que ses voisins lui attribuent. Toutes ces représentations forment un complexe dont les éléments se trouvent dans un état d'interaction mutuelle permanent. Dans ce contexte, l'objectif de ce livre est d'envisager, à partir d'un corpus significatif de manuels scolaires, la liaison dynamique entre l'auto-image et l'hétéro-image. L'hypothèse est que le contenu de l'image que le peuple bulgare attribue aux peuples voisins dépend de l'image que le premier entend octroyer à lui-même. La représentation de l'autre est donc soumise aux exigences de la représentation de soi. L'hétéro-image doit compléter l'auto-image.
