What does it mean to be a man? What does it mean to be manly? How has our notion of masculinity changed over the years? In this book, noted historian George L. Mosse provides the first historical account of the masculine stereotype in modern Western culture, tracing the evolution of the idea of manliness to reveal how it came to embody physical beauty, courage, moral restraint, and a strong will. This stereotype, he finds, originated in the tumultuous changes of the eighteenth century, as Europe's dominant aristocrats grudgingly yielded to the rise of the professional, bureaucratic, and commercial middle classes. Mosse reveals how the new bourgeoisie, faced with a bewildering, rapidly industrialized world, latched onto the knightly ideal of chivalry. He also shows how the rise of universal conscription created a "soldierly man" as an ideal type. In bringing his examination up to the present, Mosse studies the key historical roles of the so-called "fairer sex" (women) and "unmanly men" (Jews and homosexuals) in defining and maintaining the male stereotype, and considers the possible erosion of that stereotype in our own time.

“In the history of the Catholic Church no Pope can compete with John Paul II in the sheer number of Apostolic visits to the followers of Christ living in Diaspora among different nations and races, various cultural and religious communities. St. John’s “we believe in love” (I John 4:16) and St. Paul’s “love of Christ urges us” (II Cor 5:14) compels John Paul II to make so many pilgrimages throughout the world in order to bring contemporary man closer to Our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the ultimate foundation in creating One Family of Man in God. In response to his spiritual concern for the well-being of—not only the faithful—but all men of good will, people have expressed their gratitude to Pope John Paul II in manifold ways: from a pig offered by Papuans during his visit to New Guinea, to statues and monuments constructed in other visited places.” —From the Preface

so—too many men are quietly fading into the background. Misunderstood, mislabeled, or dismissed, many godly men today feel discouraged, disrespected, and devalued—sometimes even in their own homes. Don’t Forget Our Men is a powerful, practical, and biblically grounded call to re-center the role of men in our families, churches, and communities. With compassion and clarity, Pastor Mark McConnell speaks directly to the hearts of wives, mothers, sisters, and daughters who want to see the men in their lives rise with confidence, purpose, and strength. Drawing from decades of pastoral experience, personal testimony, and deep scriptural insight, this book unpacks what it truly means to honor male and female distinctiveness without diminishing either one. From understanding God’s design in Genesis to navigating the emotional needs of a husband, Don’t Forget Our Men offers wisdom, encouragement, and practical steps for building households of mutual respect and divine order. Whether you’re in a new relationship or a 40-year marriage, raising sons or praying for a brother—this book will help you love, support, and partner with the men in your life in a way that honors both God’s Word and God’s will. This is more than a book. It’s a movement of restoration. Let’s rebuild what culture has tried to tear down. Let’s not forget our men.

In this book called The Sophiology of Death: Essays on Eschatology you can findthe answer of these questions: What will be the final destiny of humanity? At God's final judgement, will all be saved, or only a few? How does Christian eschatology affect Christian political action in the here and now? And what is the destiny of each individual facing the prospect of earthly death? In these essays, Sergius Bulgakov brings the resources of scripture and tradition to bear on these vital questions, arguing for the magnificent final restoration of all creatures to union with God in a universal salvation worthy of the infinite scope of Christ's redemption. Combining practical theology with doctrinal questions, Bulgakov provides on the one hand insight into how Christians can strive to bring God's kingdom to earth in anticipation of the peace and justice of the heavenly Jerusalem. On the other, he offers profound theological reflections on the nature of human death and Christ's accompaniment of all humans in their dying, based on his own near-death experience. Although originating firmly within the Russian Orthodox tradition, Bulgakov's sensitive and incisive writing will shed new light for all on eschatology in all its facets: personal, political, and universal in Sophiology of Death.

Christ Creation And The Cosmic Goal Of Redemption written by J.J. Johnson Leese and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-17 with Religion categories.

J. J. Johnson Leese discusses how the apostle Paul's writing on Christ's relationship to creation, read alongside the interpretations of Irenaeus of Lyon, provide a meaningful contribution to contemporary debates on the interrelationship between religion and nature. Leese draws upon the integration of three related scholarly trends – the increased importance placed on biblical creation themes, the emergence of ecotheology, and the history of reception – while focusing on the Pauline corpus and readings of Paul by Irenaeus, thus uncovering a robust creation and ecotheological theology. Irenaeus' approach provides the possibility for Paul to contribute to ecotheology, by way of a theological vision where the whole of reality in relationship to Christ and creation and by extension, to soteriology and ecclesiology, are central components of Paul's theology.
