C’est à ce défi que répond l’Imagerie de l’oreille et de l’os temporal, fruit du travail d’une équipe d’experts internationaux dirigée par le Professeur Francis Veillon, en s’appuyant sur une confrontation minutieuse radio-chirurgicale et radio-anatomopathologique pour guider le lecteur. Réunissant plus de 6 000 illustrations d’une qualité exceptionnelle, tant pour les imageries médicales que les dessins, accompagnées d’une description précise, l’ouvrage présente l’ensemble de l’imagerie normale et pathologique de l’oreille et de l’os temporal, en six volumes, afin de permettre au lecteur un accès à l’information le plus facile possible. Le premier volume est consacré à l’anatomie et l’imagerie normales sous différents aspects, que ce soit les constituants élémentaires de l’oreille pris séparément, en insistant sur des structures jusque-là méconnues comme l’utricule ou le saccule, ou les voies nerveuses de l’équilibration et de l’audition, dont la configuration en imagerie reste énigmatique pour de nombreux radiologues et cliniciens. Le second volume est dédié à la pathologie inflammatoire avec ou sans cholestéatomes, où l’IRM tient une place prépondérante qui mérite des explications précises reposant sur de nombreux exemples. Le troisième volume concerne la pathologie traumatique, proposant une lecture simplifiée des fractures de l’os temporal ainsi qu’une approche en TDM et IRM des fistules de fenêtres sans fracture. L’utilité de l’imagerie de l’oreille en urgence est également présentée. Une part importante est consacrée à l’otospongiose, si fréquente, dont certaines formes rares et déroutantes sont également détaillées. L’imagerie joue un rôle par ailleurs très important dans l’analyse de l’otospongiose opérée. Le quatrième volume s’adresse à la pathologie tumorale et pseudo-tumorale de l’oreille et des régions adjacentes (angle pontocérébelleux, foramen jugulaire). Le nerf facial est traité à part, avec notamment un chapitre particulier consacré aux conflits artères-nerfs. Le cinquième volume s’intéresse à l’enfant et à toutes les affections spécifiques qui le concernent. Une attention toute particulière est portée à l’imagerie des implants cochléaires. Le sixième volume décrit les apports de la TDM et de l’IRM en fonction des symptômes : surdité, acouphènes, vertiges, en réservant un regard tout à fait novateur à l’imagerie de la maladie de Ménière. L’ouvrage se termine par une présentation des apports du cone beam, qui a probablement un bel avenir, et une utilisation très pédagogique de l’imagerie 3D des osselets. L’ensemble de ces volumes, réunis en un coffret, apporte ainsi les réponses aux questions que se posent les radiologues et les cliniciens dans un espace réputé pour la complexité de son anatomie et la richesse de ses pathologies. Le Professeur Francis VEILLON est Chef du service de Radiologie à l’hôpital de Hautepierre, CHU de Strasbourg. When funding agencies and policy organizations consider the role of modeling and simulation in modern biology, the question is often posed, what has been accomplished ? This book will be organized around a symposium on the 20 year history of the CNS meetings, to be held as part of CNS 2010 in San Antonio Texas in July 2010. The book, like the symposium is intended to summarize progress made in Computational Neuroscience over the last 20 years while also considering current challenges in the field. As described in the table of contents, the chapter’s authors have been selected to provide wide coverage of the applications of computational techniques to a broad range of questions and model systems in neuroscience. The proposed book will include several features that establish the history of the field. For each article, its author will select an article originally appearing in a CNS conference proceedings from 15 – 20 years ago. These short (less than 6 page) articles will provide illustrations of the state of the field 20 years ago. The new articles will describe what has been learned about the subject in the following 20 years, and pose specific challenges for the next 20 years. The second historical mechanism will be the reproduction of the first 12 years of posters from the CNS meeting. These posters in and of themselves have become famous in the field (they hang in the halls of the NIH in Bethesda Maryland) and were constructed as allegories for the state and development of computational neuroscience. The posters were designed by the book’s editor, who will, for the first time, provide a written description of each poster.

Introduction On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the Third Congress of Asia Pacific Symposium on Cochlear Implant and Related Sciences (3rd APSCI), I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the attendants at the meeting, as well as to the contributors to these Proceedings. As most of you will have realized, the meeting was a great success both from a scientific as well as a social point of view. Almost four hundred attendants from 25 countries gathered in the Osaka Convention Hall. The program consisted of three parallel workshops spanning one and a half days, and three full days of scientific sessions. The weather was ideal, and our guests were able to see the cherry trees in full blossom and to enjoy their fill of Japanese culture. We have great pleasure in sending you your copy of the Proceedings of the 3rd APSCI, which contains all the updated information and state-of-the-art knowledge on cochlear implants and implantable hearing devices. As is indicated in the title of the meeting, this book covers many areas that are of scientific interest to us. The articles cover subjects ranging from surgical issues with regard to cochlear implantation, to basic studies on the auditory system, developmental studies in children, communication skills, speech, and education, etc. In addition, the reader will observe that some of the articles are related to implantable middle ear devices, a subject which was not covered in the proceedings of the 1st and 2nd APSCI meetings.
