Esta obra va dirigida a los jóvenes que inician sus estudios de Medicina. El currículo de estudios médicos es muy recargado y el tiempo disponible, muy limitado. El autor pretende dar, en pocas páginas, la información básica que les permita formarse una idea del origen de la evolución de la ciencia y el arte de la medicina. Se quiere resaltar que este trabajo no es una historia de la medicina, sino un manual que resume los aspectos más destacados, Un abreboca para jóvenes con mentes inquietas. La información que se da no es completa. En muchos casos se menciona solo al protagonista principal de un descubrimiento o de un invento a sabiendas de que frecuentemente, otros, antes que él, incursionaron tímida o parcialmente en el mismo tema. Más sin embargo, la obra cumple el propósito fundamental por la cual fue escrita, revalidando su carácter práctico y de gran utilidad para el lector.
