The purpose of this book is to present a way that a person may always have improvement in the quality of life through bringing attention to living the characteristics of the "Fruit of the Spirit" established in Galatians 5:22-23. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law." There are suggested ideas for implementing the traits of the Fruit of the Spirit in daily life. Charts are provided to record progress on this implementation for personal reflection and/or small group discussion. A person leans on faith in moments of crisis. If a person consciously makes the characteristics of the "fruit of the spirit" an ongoing response to all situations in life, he will become stronger in his faith and get the best out of life. There is unlimited power when a person has a faith that results in these qualities. Improvement in a person's life can be outward; that is, seen by others. It can also be experienced by the way a person thinks or psychological improvement in a person's personal outlook on life. This can happen, even if there is limited physical improvement; although many studies support the fact that an optimistic outlook has a definite positive impact on physical healing. Faith implies a positive attitude that believes one will always improve, even if very small, until the day one dies. In summary, every person can continually improve his or her life by living by the qualities of the "Fruit of the Spirit" love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. When you make these qualities a part of everyday life, life becomes the best it can be. This book is an explanation of each characteristic with the challenge and opportunity to implement each as a part of a person's experience. There is also an original oil painting by Dr. Jarvis to represent each characteristic.

With life expectancy increasing, there is growing emphasis on encouraging older people to continue learning. This comes as part of a strategy to allow them to remain healthy, independent and vitally engaged in society for as long as possible. All the same, policymakers have barely begun to address the issues involved and the perspectives of these learners. This book presents insightful research that will help shift the focus of debate onto the learning experiences of older people themselves. It offers a critical overview of the development of theoretical and philosophical approaches to later life learning that have developed over the last three decades, drawing on published work from the USA, the UK, Australia and other countries. It documents the individual experiences of older people through a variety of methods, including: Focus group discussions Learning diaries kept by older people Questionnaires considering, among other issues, older people’s definition on what learning is Interviews and commentary This material gives a sense of the breadth and diversity of older people’s experiences, as well as the enormous range of learning activities, both informal and formal, in which they are engaged in retirement. In a climate of debate and change concerning the provision and funding of non-vocational learning opportunities for adults of any age, this study’s findings will be of particular importance. It will appeal to researchers and students of education as well as those directly involved in the implementation of courses and classes involving older learners.

Most people are not aware that much of the content of their lives is the result of their ""habit cycles"" of thinking, feeling, and acting. Also, many people want to improve their lives and relationships with others and/or want to make a change within themselves. Too many times the thought for improvement is in the tomorrow mode, neglecting today's needed action. Today's Tomorrow provides the awareness, the information, and the model for change. Today's Tomorrow utilizes stories, illustrations, and examples to explain many mental and emotional obstacles that ambush individuals on the path to improvement.

The authors of this volume provide a window into what influences the quality of life, why people live longer, and why we are relatively better off compared to decades ago. While the potential ways of measuring life quality are abundant, understanding what causes improvement requires careful study and consideration. This volume provides useful insight into these challenges and helps to highlight a clear and important separation between wellbeing and standard of living, both relevant to assessing the quality of life. Standard of living refers to the material welfare of a group. Wellbeing, on the other hand, encapsulates harder-to-measure subjective preferences. Together they help us to understand the quality of life of certain groups at specific times, and in specific communities.

Nothing is of greater interest to most people than the quality of their lives. They go to great lengths to improve the quality of their lives and engage a variety of professionals to achieve that goal. Despite this, little has been done to increase understanding of quality of life, the factors that contribute to it, or the means of improving it. Friedman redresses this neglect and enhances our understanding of disability and its treatment. This book addresses the need, felt by professionals as well as the people they serve, for a better understanding of quality of life and how to improve it. Friedman makes a number of important contributions toward this end. He integrates and summarizes the diverse research on quality-of-life indicators and focuses and defines quality of life as a field of study. Friedman presents a holistic approach to quality of life. While many have recognized the need for such an approach, it has been given little more than lip service. By redressing the lack of understanding of what quality of life means, the factors that contribute to it, and the means to improve it, he has provided a book that will be of great interest to scholars, researchers, and professionals in a number of areas, from counseling to nursing, and to interested lay people.

'1% Better is the incremental way to amazing changes in your life'. We've all tried those huge alterations thinking we'll be a brand-new person in the morning, but they never seem to stick and after a day or two, we slip back to our old bad habits. But we took baby steps into all our bad habits and we are who we are because of patterns we have repeated. So it makes sense that if we took small steps in...small steps are the way out! This book starts with over 20 pages of great wisdom, all based around 7 key habits or changes. The habits you'll learn how to change are; food, alcohol, gratitude, fulfilment, exercise fasting (for health), procrastination. Fix these 7 issues and your life can change beyond recognition. The rest of the book is set out as a 100-page journal organised into these 7 habits. So each day you can jot down what you improved on from yesterday. You might have one less piece of chocolate at the office, or a slightly smaller meal size that evening. Then you make a small change the next day. And if you miss a day or fall off the wagon? No problem, you'll only be 1% behind and you can catch up the next day. It's beautifully set out, strikingly simple and astonishingly effective There will be no big announcements, no fanfare, no broken promises and no sense of failure. Just incremental and lasting change. But be prepared, at first nobody will notice...then everyone will.
