Frühjahr 1945: Obergruppenführer und SS- General Herrmann Konrad verlässt auf abenteuerlichem Wege Deutschland, um sich dem Zugriff der Alliierten zu entziehen. Seine Flucht führt ihn über einen geheimen U- Boot- Bunker auf Fuerteventura nach Argentinien. Parallel dazu lässt er geheime Dokumente und Pläne von neuentwickelten Waffen, sowie größere Mengen von Goldbarren der Reichbank mit einem U- Boot des neuen Typs XXI nach Buenos Aires bringen. Seine Aufgabe sieht der General darin, eine militärische Organisation gegen den Kommunismus zu gründen, die, immer "In Bereitschaft", für den Kampf zur Verfügung steht. Heute: Der Kunsthändler Juan Garcia verunglückt auf dem Weg nach Hause mit seinem Auto direkt vor dem heimischen Büro des wenig erfolgreichen Schriftstellers Perry Slot. Die Polizei stellt fest, dass, wenige Sekunden nach oder vor einem schlecht erklärbaren Herztod Gracias, auf den Wagen geschossen wurde. Einen Zusammenhang zwischen Tod und Schüssen gibt es anscheinend nicht. Slot findet eine gefährliche Verbindung zwischen Garcia, General Konrad, dem amerikanischen Heeres-Geheimdienst CIC von 1945 und den Neonazis der Gegenwart. Slot scheint der Einzige zu sein, der das Vermächtnis des Generals kennt: Die Gründung eines Unterdrückungsinstruments auch gegen das eigene Volk: die konsequente Anwendung der "Strategie der Spannung". In seinem ersten Roman, dem Thriller "In Bereitschaft", stellt Vinzens nachzuprüfende Fakten einer fiktiven Handlung gegenüber: Zum Beispiel den möglichen Missbrauch des "Bretton-Woods-Systems" von 1944, das die Konditionen vom Umtausch von US-amerikanischen Dollar in Gold regelte. Zum Beispiel der Ausweitung des Finanzsystems "Hawala", das auf Vertrauen beruht und an Geschäftsbanken und Regierungen unkontrolliert vorbeigeht. Zum Beispiel der Anwendung der "Strategie der Spannung", die Gewalttaten an der eigenen Bevölkerung zulässt, um unliebsame Gruppen zu diskriminieren.
