Es sollte herausgefunden werden, ob der Determinationsansatz von Barbara Baerns bereits überholt ist oder heute noch immer Gültigkeit besitzt und wenn ja, in welchem Maße. , Abstract: In den vergangenen Jahren hat sich das System Journalismus immer weiter ausdifferenziert. Die Entstehung neuer Ressorts, beispielsweise "Wissenschaft", "Finanzen", "Verbrauchertipps" und "Gesundheit", zeigt das. Als Folge dessen spezialisieren sich Journalisten weiterhin auf bestimmte Themenbereiche. Außerdem sind Fachjournalisten zunehmend gefragt, da sie komplizierte Sachverhalte für die Leser, Zuhörer und Zuschauer besser verständlich machen. Doch was bedeutet Fachjournalismus? Inwiefern unterscheidet er sich vom althergebrachten Journalismus? Fungiert er als Bindeglied zwischen Journalismus und Public Relations? Fachjournalismus hat vor allem eine enge Verbindung zu den Public Relations - wie eng, wird von der Autorin gezeigt. Dabei geraten verschiedene Ansätze in den Mittelpunkt der Betrachtung, mit deren Hilfe die Interdependenzen, Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede zwischen Fachjournalismus und Public Relations erläutert werden. Dazu zählen der steuerungstheoretische Determinationsansatz, der handlungstheoretische Intereffikations- sowie der systemtheoretische Interpenetrationsansatz. Aber welcher dieser Ansätze beschreibt die derzeitige Situation zwischen Fachjournalismus und Public Relations am besten? Wie sehr sind Fachjournalisten und PR-Leute voneinander abhängig? Ist der Determinationsansatz von Barbara Baerns heute noch gültig? Der Bedarf an Wissen in der Gesellschaft steigt weiter an und damit auch die Nachfrage nach Fachjournalisten, die komplexe Sachverhalte einem interessierten (Laien-)Publikum verständlich vermitteln. Dementsprechend spezialisieren sich immer mehr Journalisten auf ein Gegenstands- oder Themen bezogenes Fachgebiet. Doch was genau ist Fachjournalismus? Worin bestehen die Unterschiede zum herkömmlichen Journalismus und wo sind Übereinstimmungen erkennbar? Fachjournalismus und Public Relations stehen in sehr enger Beziehung zueinander, enger noch als Journalismus und Public Relations. Wie weit Fachjournalisten und PR-Praktiker voneinander abhängig sind und ob eines der beiden publizistischen Teilsysteme größeren Einfluss auf das andere ausübt, soll in der vorliegenden Arbeit näher untersucht werden. Als Grundlage der Betrachtung und für weitere Überlegungen dienen der steuerungstheoretische Determinationsansatz, der handlungstheoretische Intereffikationsansatz sowie der systemtheoretische Interpenetrationsansatz. Art was an essential element of the propaganda machines during World War II. Especially Hitler misused art to propagate his politic opinion amongst the public. Today, a vast range of companies use art in order to receive (hopefully) positive media coverage, e.g. Telecom New Zealand is sponsor of the New Zealand International Arts Festival, the City Gallery in Wellington and the Auckland Philharmonia, and initiator of the Telecom New Zealand International Film Festivals, the White Pages Arts Award and the IHC Telecom Art Award. However, the connection between public relations and the arts must also be seen from another point of view. In terms of arts marketing, the arts can benefit from public relations. Innovations are adopted when users integrate them in meaningful ways into existing social practices. Histories of major technological innovations show that often the creative initiative of users and user communities becomes the determining factor in the evolution of particular innovations. The evolutionary routes of the telephone, the Internet, the World Wide Web, email, and the Linux operating system all took their developers by surprise. Articulation of these technologies as meaningful products and systems was made possible by innovative users and unintended resources. Iterative and interactive models have replaced the traditional linear model of innovation during the last decade. Yet, heroic innovators and entrepreneurs, unambiguous functionality of products, and a focus on the up-stream aspects of innovation still underlie much discussion on innovation, intellectual property rights, technology policy, and product development. Coherent conceptual, theoretical and practical conclusions from research on knowledge creation, theory of learning, history of technology, and the social basis of innovative change have rarely been made. This book argues that innovation is about creating meaning; that it is inherently social; and is grounded in existing social practices. To understand the social basis of innovation and technology development we have to move beyond the traditional product-centric view on innovations. Integrating concepts from several disciplinary perspectives and detailed analyses of the evolution of Internet-related innovations, including packet-switched computer networks, World Wide Web, and the Linux open source operating system, the book develops foundations for a new theoretical and practical understanding of innovation. For example, it shows that innovative development can occur in two qualitatively different ways, one based on evolving specialization and the other based on recombination of existing socially produced resources. The expanding communication and collaboration networks have increased the importance of the recombinatory mode making mobility of resources, sociotechnical translation mechanisms, and meaning creation in communities of practice increasingly important for innovation research and product development.

The process of user-centered innovation: how it can benefit both users and manufacturers and how its emergence will bring changes in business models and in public policy. Innovation is rapidly becoming democratized. Users, aided by improvements in computer and communications technology, increasingly can develop their own new products and services. These innovating users—both individuals and firms—often freely share their innovations with others, creating user-innovation communities and a rich intellectual commons. In Democratizing Innovation, Eric von Hippel looks closely at this emerging system of user-centered innovation. He explains why and when users find it profitable to develop new products and services for themselves, and why it often pays users to reveal their innovations freely for the use of all.The trend toward democratized innovation can be seen in software and information products—most notably in the free and open-source software movement—but also in physical products. Von Hippel's many examples of user innovation in action range from surgical equipment to surfboards to software security features. He shows that product and service development is concentrated among "lead users," who are ahead on marketplace trends and whose innovations are often commercially attractive. Von Hippel argues that manufacturers should redesign their innovation processes and that they should systematically seek out innovations developed by users. He points to businesses—the custom semiconductor industry is one example—that have learned to assist user-innovators by providing them with toolkits for developing new products. User innovation has a positive impact on social welfare, and von Hippel proposes that government policies, including R&D subsidies and tax credits, should be realigned to eliminate biases against it.
