Fr Arrupe's reflections are profound, moving and modern. They are also significant and practical. He is very much a contemporary man; a witness to the atomic age with all its possibilities of achievement and progress; an eye-witness in Japan to part of its record of awesome destructiveness. In 1942 Fr Arrupe became Rector at the Jesuit house at Hiroshima and he was able to use his earlier medical training when the atom bomb fell on the city in August 1945. He was elected twenty-eighth General of the Society of Jesus in May 1965 and was the first Basque since St Ignatius Loyola to hold that ofice.

Before I start this book by quoting the lyrics to a beautiful Holy Spirit inspired song. I have it on my heart to impart a message from God.Wake up old fogies you have lost your way, it is no wonder the younger generations are leaving the churches in their millions, bring yourselves alive in Christ, and heap burning coals into the furnace of your heart and come alive in your worship and way of life.(Explanation to follow towards the end of the book)It was also pointed out to me that certain older readers of my books are unable to read the smaller print, so I have increased its size for this publication.Song In Christ Alone. In Christ alone my hope is found,He is my light, my strength, my song; This Cornerstone, this solid Ground,Firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace,When fears are stilled, when strivings cease! My Comforter, my All in All,Here in the love of Christ I stand. In Christ alone! - who took on flesh,Fullness of God in helpless babe. This gift of love and righteousness,Scorned by the ones He came to save:Till on that cross as Jesus died,The wrath of God was satisfied -For every sin on Him was laid; Here in the death of Christ I live. There in the ground His body lay,Light of the world by darkness slain:Then bursting forth in glorious dayUp from the grave He rose again! And as He stands in victorySin's curse has lost its grip on me,For I am His and He is mine -Bought with the precious blood of Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death,This is the power of Christ in me;From life's first cry to final breath,Jesus commands my destiny. No power of hell, no scheme of man,Can ever pluck me from His hand:Till He returns or calls me home,Here in the power of Christ I'll stand.Stuart Townend & Keith Getty. As I spend my quiet times with God the Holy Spirit helps and guides me and draws me nearer in my desire to know him better. And in my calling and yearning to learn and write, he, the Holy Spirit guides in a special way revealing to me scriptures I possibly have read hundreds of times over the years. Yet in these times it is as if a veil has been removed and the words from the scriptures take on a new meaning, and taking root in my heart and I feel God through the Holy Spirit wanting me to share what he has, and is showing me, and share it with others.Incredibly time seems to have no meaning when I am writing and immersed in these times of study., and I have found eight to ten hours a day can pass and it was as if they had not existed such was the depth of revelations that God has been sharing and showing to me, a humble uneducated person born in the foothills of the great vast Alberta Alta, Canada, but now nationalised British.I have been privileged in and by God and know that nothing I could do could deserve such Grace and love. Yet God considered my repenting heart and saw something there, what I know not, other than a deep love for Christ my Lord and saviour and an earnest desire, a longing that I cannot even put into words as my education has not equipped me so. Yet in God's grace he took a broken vessel who had lost his way, broken in heart and wounded countless times in this vast spiritual war of heaven and hell, good and evil. And he has rebuilt me, pruned and cut away the dead dying parts and nurtured new growth within me, so I can be a vessel that He can use and work through to build bridges of friendship and shine the unconditional light of Christ pointing the way to Jesus, my Lord and Saviour.

When all seems lost, where can you find hope? Katherine and Jay Wolf married right after college and sought adventure far from home in Los Angeles, CA. As they pursued their dreams--she as a model and he as a lawyer--they planted their lives in the city and their church community. Their son, James, came along unexpectedly in the fall of 2007, and just six months later, everything changed in a moment for this young family. On April 21, 2008, as James slept in the other room, Katherine collapsed, suffering a massive brain stem stroke without warning. Miraculously, Jay came home in time and called for help. Katherine was immediately rushed into brain surgery, though her chance of survival was slim. As the sun rose the next morning, the surgeon proclaimed that Katherine had survived the removal of part of her brain, though her future recovery was uncertain. Yet in that moment, there was a spark of hope. Through forty days on life support in the ICU and nearly two years in full-time brain rehab, that small spark of hope was fanned into flame. Hope Heals documents Katherine and Jay's journey as they struggled to regain Katherine's quality of life and as she relearned to talk, eat, and walk. As Katherine returned home with a severely disabled body but a completely renewed purpose, she and Jay committed to celebrating this gift of a second chance by embracing life fully, even though that life looked very different than they could have ever imagined. As you uncover Katherine and Jay's remarkable story, you'll be encouraged to: Find lasting hope in the midst of struggle Embrace the unexpected Welcome God's miracles into your everyday life In the midst of continuing hardships, both in body and mind, Katherine and Jay found what we all long to find: a hope that heals the most broken place--our souls. Let Hope Heals be your guide along the way. Praise for Hope Heals: "As I read this book, tears streamed from my eyes even as joy flooded my heart. Jay and Katherine are a raw yet refreshing testimony to the unshakable trustworthiness of God amidst the unimaginable trials of life. This book reminds all of us where hope can be found in a world where none of us know what the next day holds." --David Platt, author of the New York Times bestseller Radical and president of the International Mission Board "Hope Heals is a beautiful, true story that illustrates the love and protection God has for us even in the darkest times of our lives. Katherine and Jay's dedication to each other and the Lord through their most devastating season is inspiring. This book will help your heart believe that He sees, He knows, He cares, and He is still working miracles today!" --Lysa TerKeurst, New York Times bestselling author and president of Proverbs 31 Ministries

In this book, then-Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio answers these questions himself as he preaches a retreat to the bishops of Spain. Following the spiritual exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, he meditates upon the crucial issues at stake in the vocation of a bishop. In so doing, he offers us his vision of the Church, setting forth the outlines of what could well be the reform program of Pope Francis. -- Provided by publisher.

Hope is part of the spiritual vocabulary of the believer in Jesus Christ. The word is found abundantly in the Scriptures. We speak of it in our testimonies and fellowship. We sing about it in our corporate worship. Yet, it would seem at times that our concept of hope is understood in merely some vague way. Hope seems like an abstraction (something we consider only theoretically) not something that really matters or makes a difference. However, biblical hope is a gospel grace that provides joy and endurance for our lives right now. A Hope-Filled Life seeks to define biblical hope and provide a practical theology for understanding and applying it to our lives. Hope is, indeed, not an optional add-on but a vital necessity. Embracing the many truths about hope in the Scriptures strengthens our hearts. As we run the race set before us, we must grow in our understanding that Jesus Christ is truly our great Savior and our sure and steadfast hope!

Volume 57 Sermons 3231-3282Charles Spurgeon (19 June 1834 – 31 January 1892) is one of the church’s most famous preachers and Christianity’s foremost prolific writers. Called the “Prince of Preachers,” he was one of England's most notable ministers for most of the second half of the nineteenth century, and he still remains highly influential among Christians of different denominations today. His sermons have spread all over the world, and his many printed works have been cherished classics for decades. In his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to more than 10 million people, often up to ten times each week. He was the pastor of the congregation of the New Park Street Chapel (later the Metropolitan Tabernacle) in London for 38 years. He was an inexhaustible author of various kinds of works including sermons, commentaries, an autobiography, as well as books on prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, hymns and more. Spurgeon was known to produce powerful sermons of penetrating thought and divine inspiration, and his oratory and writing skills held his audiences spellbound. Many Christians have discovered Spurgeon's messages to be among the best in Christian literature. Edward Walford wrote in Old and New London: Volume 6 (1878) quoting an article from the Times regarding one of Spurgeon’s meetings at Surrey: “Fancy a congregation consisting of 10,000 souls, streaming into the hall, mounting the galleries, humming, buzzing, and swarming—a mighty hive of bees—eager to secure at first the best places, and, at last, any place at all. After waiting more than half an hour—for if you wish to have a seat you must be there at least that space of time in advance—Mr. Spurgeon ascended his tribune. To the hum, and rush, and trampling of men, succeeded a low, concentrated thrill and murmur of devotion, which seemed to run at once, like an electric current, through the breast of every one present, and by this magnetic chain the preacher held us fast bound for about two hours. It is not my purpose to give a summary of his discourse. It is enough to say of his voice, that its power and volume are sufficient to reach every one in that vast assembly; of his language, that it is neither high-flown nor homely; of his style, that it is at times familiar, at times declamatory, but always happy, and often eloquent; of his doctrine, that neither the 'Calvinist' nor the 'Baptist' appears in the forefront of the battle which is waged by Mr. Spurgeon with relentless animosity, and with Gospel weapons, against irreligion, cant, hypocrisy, pride, and those secret bosom-sins which so easily beset a man in daily life; and to sum up all in a word, it is enough to say of the man himself, that he impresses you with a perfect conviction of his sincerity.” More than a hundred years after his death, Charles Spurgeon’s legacy continues to effectively inspire the church around the world. For this reason, Delmarva Publications has chosen to publish the complete works of Charles Spurgeon.
