In Search of Psyche tells of a psychology professor who doffed his academic robes for a year to sit in on university classes. It gives a view of the fare students get in one of the largest courses in Colleges of Arts and Science at a nationwide sample of distinguished universities. From it come answers to these questions: What is the psychology taught to beginning students? How is it taught? How well? In Search of Psyche is, thus, introductory psychology at Berkeley on a Wednesday in October, Stanford the next Tuesday, Michigan and Ohio State in the same week in February, Harvard and Yale in early spring.

Psyche S Exile An Empirical Odyssey In Search Of The Soul written by Jerry Kroth and has been published by Genotype this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Psychology categories.

Psyche’s Exile: an empirical odyssey in search of the soul. “Psyche” means “soul” in Greek, and “psychology” literally means ‘the study of the soul.’ For over a century American psychology has gone in precisely the opposite direction. Soul = mind, and mind = brain with no exceptions! This reductionist paradigm is challenged in this book as Professor Kroth reviews eight politically incorrect, ‘forbidden’ databases in his empirical pursuit of the immortal soul of the ages: near-death experiences, deathbed visions, precognitive dreams, premonitions, synchronicity, telepathy, states of possession, just to name a few. The journey leads to a fascinating rediscovery of the soul. Reviews “Psyche’s Exile . . is an absolute treasure trove of carefully collected experiential and experimental data spanning the research areas of anthropology, sociology, religion, spirituality, psychology, and physics. Although we are still some human evolutionary time away from experimentally proving the existence of the human soul, there is certainly enough good data available at present to make it a viable working hypothesis. Dr. Kroth is dedicated to his craft as a professional explorer of nature in its many forms. For myself, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this book to my scientific colleagues and my friends.” —William A. Tiller, Ph.D., professor of physics: Stanford University; Author of Science and Human Transformation

Modern Man in Search of a Soul is the perfect introduction to the theories and concepts of one of the most original and influential religious thinkers of the twentieth century. Lively and insightful, it covers all of his most significant themes, including man's need for a God and the mechanics of dream analysis. One of his most famous books, it perfectly captures the feelings of confusion that many sense today. Generation X might be a recent concept, but Jung spotted its forerunner over half a century ago. For anyone seeking meaning in today's world, Modern Man in Search of a Soul is a must.

In Search Of Self In India And Japan written by Alan Roland and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-04-13 with Psychology categories.

Drawing on work with Indian and Japanese patients, a prominent American psychoanalyst explores inner worlds that are markedly different from the Western psyche. A series of fascinating case studies illustrates Alan Roland's argument: the "familial self," rooted in the subtle emotional hierarchical relationships of the family and group, predominates in Indian and Japanese psyches and contrasts strongly with the Western "individualized self." In perceptive and sympathetic terms Roland describes the emotional problems that occur when Indians and Japanese encounter Western culture and the resulting successful integration of new patterns that he calls the "expanding self." Of particular interest are descriptions of the special problems of women in changing society and of the paradoxical relationship of the "spiritual self" of Indians and Japanese to the "familial self.? Also described is Roland's own response to the broadening of his emotional and intellectual horizons as he talked to patients and supervised therapists in India and Japan. "As we were coming in for a landing to Bombay," he writes, "the plane banked so sharply that when I supposedly looked down all I could see were the stars, while if I looked up, there were the lights of the city." This is the "world turned upside down" that he describes so eloquently in this book. What he has learned will fascinate those who wish to deepen their understanding of a different way of being.

"Considered by many to be one of the most important books in the field of psychology, Modern Man in Search of a Soul is a comprehensive introduction to the thought of Carl Gustav Jung. The writing covers a broad array of subjects such as gnosticism, theosophy, Eastern philosophy and spirituality in general. The first part of the book deals with dream analysis in its practical application, the problems and aims of modern psychotherapy, and also his own theory of psychological types. The middle section addresses Jung's beliefs about the stages of life and Archaic man. He also contrasts his own theories with those of Sigmund Freud. In the latter parts of the book Jung discusses psychology and literature and devotes a chapter to the basic postulates of analytical psychology. The last two chapters are devoted to the spiritual problem of modern man in aftermath of World War I. He compares it to the flowering of gnosticism in the 2nd century and investigates how psychotherapists are like the clergy."--Amazon.com viewed June 30, 2022.

Noteworthy expert in psychology and intelligence Robert J. Sternberg gives an innovative introduction to psychology, focusing on the evolution of ideas and dialectical thinking. This focus on the evolution of ideas is complimented by an examination of the evolution of organisms and the importance of adaptation to their environment. Sternberg's Triarchic Theory of Intelligence (analytical, creative, and practical) is implemented and includes questions embedded within chapters as well as at the ends of chapters. Use of the Psyche myth throughout the text emphasizes continuity of thinking in psychology and exemplifies many of the phenomena that psychologists seek to study: curiosity, envy, love, compassion, altruism, and perseverance. Psyche story on inner cover and Psyche images as part openers identify the role of Psyche as the figure after whom psychology is named. In Search of questions introduce each major section, stating the major elements to be addressed in that section. Dialectical progression of psychology: from one point of view, to an opposing view, to a synthesis of the two, which then becomes the basis for a new point of view to be opposed. You'll also find the following improvements new to this edition: The text as been shortened roughly 15 percent, providing a more focused, easily approachable style to the topics and discussions. The text contains hundreds of updated references. New information and discussions focus the text on psychology as both a social science and a natural-science to better meet the needs of a natural-science oriented curriculum. Chapter outlines, summaries, bold and italicized terms, and definitions have been completely restructured for clarity. InSearch of questions now ask the major question addressed by each part of the chapter and emphasize how the study of psychology is question-driven. An increased multicultural and cross-cultural emphasis helps students understand how various cultures and subcultures relate. Ancillaries are better integrated and easier to use. In response to user feedback, difficult Analytical-Creative-Practical questions are revised to be more focused and useful for students. Also, there are fewer of these questions.
