This comprehensive tutorial introduces the development of, and current trends in, superstring theory, a significant and still controversial attempt to unify general relativity and quantum field theory. Intended for graduate students with a year of quantum mechanics and familiarity with relativistic methods, the book makes these exciting developments available to physicists, mathematicians, and others for the first time in one volume. Stressing current areas of research activity, Introduction to Superstrings addresses all relevant topics including string field theory, multi-loops and Teichmuller spaces, conformal field theory, and four-dimensional superstrings. Professor Kaku is currently leading seminars in superstring theory at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

An explanation of the development and meaning of the Superstring Theory, intended for lay readers with no knowledge of mathematics. The theory states that everything in the universe consists of miniscule strings of ten dimensions, six of which are so tightly curled as to be invisible to us.

Superstring theory is a promising theory which can potentially unify all the forces and the matters in particle physics. A new multi-dimensional object which is called "D-brane" was found. It drastically changed our perspective of a unified world. We may live on membrane-like hypersurfaces in higher dimensions ("braneworld scenario"), or we can create blackholes at particle accelarators, or the dynamics of quarks is shown to be equivalent to the higher dimensional gravity theory. All these scenarios are explained in this book with plain words but with little use of equations and with many figures. The book starts with a summary of long-standing problems in elementary particle physics and explains the D-branes and many applications of them. It ends with future roads for a unified ultimate theory of our world.

The Little Book Of String Theory written by Steven S. Gubser and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-02-08 with Science categories.

The essential beginner's guide to string theory The Little Book of String Theory offers a short, accessible, and entertaining introduction to one of the most talked-about areas of physics today. String theory has been called the "theory of everything." It seeks to describe all the fundamental forces of nature. It encompasses gravity and quantum mechanics in one unifying theory. But it is unproven and fraught with controversy. After reading this book, you'll be able to draw your own conclusions about string theory. Steve Gubser begins by explaining Einstein's famous equation E = mc2, quantum mechanics, and black holes. He then gives readers a crash course in string theory and the core ideas behind it. In plain English and with a minimum of mathematics, Gubser covers strings, branes, string dualities, extra dimensions, curved spacetime, quantum fluctuations, symmetry, and supersymmetry. He describes efforts to link string theory to experimental physics and uses analogies that nonscientists can understand. How does Chopin's Fantasie-Impromptu relate to quantum mechanics? What would it be like to fall into a black hole? Why is dancing a waltz similar to contemplating a string duality? Find out in the pages of this book. The Little Book of String Theory is the essential, most up-to-date beginner's guide to this elegant, multidimensional field of physics.

Principles Of String Theory written by Lars Brink and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-11 with Science categories.

The almost irresistible beauty of string theory has seduced many theoretical physicists in recent years. Even hardened men have been swept away by what they can already see and by the promise of even more. It would appear fair to say that it is not yet clear what form the theory will finally take and in what precise way it will relate to the physical world. However, it would seem equally fair to state that, most likely, strings are here to stay and will playa profound and central role in our conception of the universe. There is therefore a pressing need to provide both practicing physicists and advanced students with ways to master quickly, but soundly, the basic principles of the theory. The present volume is a step in that direction. It contains a lucid presentation of the basic principles of string theory in forms which may survive future developments. The book is an outgrowth of lectures given by Lars Brink and Marc Henneaux at the Centro de Estudios Cientificos de Santiago. The lectures covered in a self-contained manner different but complementary aspects of the foundations of string theory.

Embark on an enthralling journey into the realm of superstrings, a captivating theory that seeks to unify the fundamental forces of nature and unravel the deepest mysteries of the cosmos. Superstrings, envisioned as minuscule, vibrating cosmic strings, challenge our conventional understanding of particles as point-like entities. This theory proposes that these strings exist in extra dimensions beyond our familiar three spatial dimensions, giving rise to the particles we observe in the universe. With its elegant mathematical framework, superstring theory offers a potential solution to some of the most perplexing enigmas in physics, including the existence of dark matter and dark energy, the hierarchy problem, and the elusive nature of quantum gravity. It hints at the existence of supersymmetric particles, mirror images of known particles with different properties, awaiting discovery. Superstring theory paints a vivid picture of a multiverse, a vast cosmic tapestry woven from countless universes, each with its own unique set of laws and properties. This concept challenges our perception of reality and opens up new avenues for exploration and understanding. While superstring theory holds immense promise, it is not without its challenges. Its mathematical complexity is daunting, and experimental verification remains an elusive goal. Yet, the quest to unify all the forces and particles of nature continues to drive physicists around the world, pushing the boundaries of human knowledge. In this book, we take you on an accessible and engaging journey through the captivating world of superstrings. We delve into the theory's fundamental concepts, explore its implications for our understanding of the universe, and discuss the challenges and controversies surrounding it. Along the way, we uncover the beauty and elegance of superstrings, a theory that has captivated the imaginations of physicists and laypeople alike. If you like this book, write a review!

Supersymmetric Gauge Field Theory And String Theory written by D. Bailin and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1994-01-01 with Science categories.

Designed as a sequel to the authors' Introduction to Gauge Field Theory, Supersymmetric Gauge Field Theory and String Theory introduces first-year graduate students to supersymmetric theories, including supergravity and superstring theories. Starting with the necessary background in quantum field theory, the book covers the three key topics of high-energy physics. The emphasis is on practical calculations rather than abstract generalities or phenomenological results. Where possible, the authors show how to calculate, connecting the theoretical with the phenomenological. While the field continues to advance and grow, this book addresses the basic theory at the core and will likely remain relevant even if more advanced ideas change.

Perspectives On Supersymmetry written by Gordon Kane and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-07-03 with Science categories.

Supersymmetry is at an exciting stage of development. It extends the Standard Model of particle physics into a more powerful theory that both explains more and allows more questions to be addressed. Most important, it opens a window for studying and testing fundamental theories at the Planck scale. Experimentally we are finally entering the intensity and energy regions where superpartners are likely to be detected, and then studied. There has been progress in understanding the remarkable physics implications of supersymmetry, including the derivation of the Higgs mechanism, the unification of the Standard Model forces, cosmological connections such as a candidate for the cold dark matter of the universe and the scalar fields that drive inflation and their potential, the relationship to Planck scale theories, and more. While there are a number of reviews and books where the mathematical structure and uses of supersymmetry can be learned, there are few where the particle physics is the main focus. This book fills that gap. It begins with an excellent pedagogical introduction to the physics and methods and formalism of supersymmetry, by S Martin, which is accessible to anyone with a basic knowledge of the Standard Model of particle physics. Next is an overview of open questions by K Dienes and C Kolda, followed by chapters on topics ranging from how to detect superpartners to connections with Planck scale theories, by leading experts. This invaluable book will allow any interested physicist to understand the coming experimental and theoretical progress in supersymmetry, and will also help students and workers to quickly learn new aspects of supersymmetry they want to pursue.
