When Fritz Walther was a young boy growing up in Dresden, his grandfather took him to the zoo, where he immediately fell in love with gazelles and dreamed of going to Africa to study them. He finally realized this dream in the 1960s, when he began a series of research field trips in the Serengeti National Park. His work led to numerous important studies in animal behavior and communication, especially on Thomson's and Grant's gazelles. Now, almost thirty years after his field research, Walther gives us a memoir of his experiences - the challenges, problems, and romance of studying animals on the Serengeti at a time when it was still one of the great wild areas of the world. This is a book for everyone who loves nature, cares about the environment, and wants to learn how a dedicated scientist unlocks the secrets of animal behavior.

Antelope herds numbering in the tens of thousands formerly occurred across the steppes and semideserts of Eurasia and India, but these have nearly all been reduced to fractions of their earlier size; antelope populations are now fragmented across the region, and during recent decades several species have disappeared altogether. Threats include hunting, loss of habitat, population fragmentation, inadequate protected area coverage, poorly-developed administrative structures, under-resourcing of conservation programmes, and lack of enforcement of existing legislation. Rising human population growth and economic development constantly increases pressure on land and natural resources. There is a consequent need for integrated rural development, and community-based conservation projects, which have the full participation of local people at the planning and execution stages. This publication, Part 4 of the Global Antelope Survey, covers 37 countries in the region, and actions to conserve antelope populations are listed in each country report.

Do you know that in Arabic, Gazelle means love poem? And do you know that when Gazelles need to cool down, they will pant rapidly through their nasal passage? It is sometimes difficult to make our children understand the beauty of nature, to make them appreciate the small things, the beauty of a flower, the freshness of the air, the scent of grass. Often, we are not fortunate to be in contact with nature, far from a meadow, closed in the cities. Still, so often, while looking out from our balcony in a beautiful country house, we know how to observe but do not appreciate creation's beauty.Know the details and habits of zoo animals as common as it is surprising, through a simple path, which fuels your child's interest and curiosity. That's the purpose of this book. But beware, prepare for the challenge! You will have to be able to answer the questions that your child will ask you by showing off their deep knowledge in the microworld of the Gazelle: -Mom, do you know what family Gazelle are a part of? I do!-Hey dad, do you know what the most popular Gazelle is? I do!-Grandpa, do you know what Gazelles mean in Arabic and Persian literature? I do!-Grandma, do you know what a female Gazelle is called? I do!-Sarah, you're my big sister, and you've studied a lot, but I bet you don't know what the biggest and rarest Gazelle is in the world! I know that. You don't need anything else; just one click on "Buy Now," and you will let your child live a magical new adventure with his new friend Gazelle and the magic natural world of zoo animals.

Entrepreneurship Human Capital And Regional Development written by Rui Baptista and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-01-14 with Business & Economics categories.

This book makes original contributions to the literature on clusters, human capital, and regional development by focusing on the link between entrepreneurship and economic growth, aiming for a better understanding of the dynamics of growth determined by the entrepreneur’s action in the regional space. The focus is therefore on critical reflection and rethinking the articulation between three levels of analysis of economic systems, namely entrepreneurship, human capital and regional development, which have not so far been perfectly articulated in the literature of reference on endogenous growth. Although there has been significant research so far into the success and failure of clusters, the implications of these multiple research efforts fail to provide political decision-makers and company managers with critical information about which mechanisms lie behind cluster success and also about how clusters survive and prosper. The innovative approaches presented in this book on entrepreneurship, human capital mobility and regional development have considerable potential to create new and original implications for decision-makers and managers. In terms of value added, this book contributes to the literature by seeking answers to the following questions: (i) Is the growth and success of clusters over time due to concentration and transmission of business competences through spin-offs located in a given regional space? (ii) Does increased density of job options outside the workplace contribute to increased mobility of human capital between firms located within clusters, and so improve coordination in the local labor market? (iii) Do spin-offs benefit from hiring workers from successful incumbents, inasmuch as those workers are expected to perform better than other workers from different origins? Integrating theoretical frameworks, empirical research, and regional case studies (from Portugal, Spain, Norway and Turkey), the editors and contributors demonstrate that the regional dynamics of industry growth are strongly influenced by the mobility of employees towards new firms.
