Bayesian Psychometric Modeling written by Roy Levy and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-28 with Mathematics categories.

A Single Cohesive Framework of Tools and Procedures for Psychometrics and Assessment Bayesian Psychometric Modeling presents a unified Bayesian approach across traditionally separate families of psychometric models. It shows that Bayesian techniques, as alternatives to conventional approaches, offer distinct and profound advantages in achieving many goals of psychometrics. Adopting a Bayesian approach can aid in unifying seemingly disparate—and sometimes conflicting—ideas and activities in psychometrics. This book explains both how to perform psychometrics using Bayesian methods and why many of the activities in psychometrics align with Bayesian thinking. The first part of the book introduces foundational principles and statistical models, including conceptual issues, normal distribution models, Markov chain Monte Carlo estimation, and regression. Focusing more directly on psychometrics, the second part covers popular psychometric models, including classical test theory, factor analysis, item response theory, latent class analysis, and Bayesian networks. Throughout the book, procedures are illustrated using examples primarily from educational assessments. A supplementary website provides the datasets, WinBUGS code, R code, and Netica files used in the examples.

Good Knowledge Bad Knowledge written by Stephen Hetherington and has been published by Clarendon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-10-18 with Philosophy categories.

What is knowledge? How hard is it for a person to have knowledge? Good Knowledge, Bad Knowledge confronts contemporary philosophical attempts to answer those classic questions, by identifying and arguing against two fundamental epistemological presumptions. Can there be both better and worse knowledge of some fact? Can you improve your knowledge of a particular fact? Can there be especially bad knowledge of a specific fact? Epistemologists routinely answer these questions with a resounding 'No'. But Stephen Hetherington argues that those standard answers are mistaken. The result is a theory of knowledge that is unique in conceiving of knowledge in a non-absolutist way. The theory offers new solutions to many traditional epistemological puzzles, including various kinds of scepticism, the Gettier challenge, and the problem of the criterion. It also offers a fresh way of using G. E. Moore's anti-sceptical gambit, along with reinterpretations of the epistemic roles of fallibility, luck, relevance, and dogmatism. And what can we know about knowledge? The role of intuition in shaping epistemological thought about knowledge is critically examined. Anyone working on epistemology will enjoy this original and challenging work.

Software Systems Safety written by O. Grumberg and has been published by IOS Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-30 with Computers categories.

Until quite recently, the correctness and security of software systems was a largely theoretical problem relevant only for a small group of computer specialists. Today it is a fundamental problem for society at large, with security breaches in banking software, malware attacks and bugs in programs affecting millions of people and making the headlines almost daily. The computer science community is developing verification and synthesis tools which will mechanize ever more tasks in the design of secure programs. This book presents the papers delivered at the NATO Advanced Study Institute (ASI) Summer School Marktoberdorf 2013 – Software Systems Safety. The participants represented research groups from both industry and academia, and the subjects covered included: software model checking via systematic testing, program synthesis, E voting systems, probabilistic model checking in biology, infinite state model checking, Boolean satisfiability, interactive proof, and software security by information flow control. The Marktoberdorf Summer School is one of the most renowned international computer science summer schools, and this book, with its detailed overview of current research results with special emphasis on the solving of software systems security problems, will be of interest to all those whose work involves systems security.

Unique Solutions For Strategic Games written by Werner Güth and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Business & Economics categories.

This book develops a general solution concept for strategic games which resolves strategic uncertainty completely. The concept is described by a mathematically formulated solution procedure and illustrated by applying it to many interesting examples. A long nontechnical introduction tries to survey and to discuss the more technical parts of the book. The book and especially the introduction provide firm and consistent guidance for scholars of game theory. There are many open problems which could inspire further research efforts.
