Report from a state grant program sponsored by Indiana's Lieutenant Governor and the Indiana Tourism Division beginning in 2003 that evaluated the development potential of new tourism attractions for Indiana based on Indiana's limestone industry.The Convention and Visitor Bureaus of Monroe and Lawrence Counties partnered to study the feasibility of creating a series of attractions. Aerial photos and maps supplied the basis for identifying quarries and stone mills studied. Background material includes personal interviews with executives of limestone companies, property owners, historians and interested citizens. Strategic Marketing Research Inc. performed the consumer surveys to measure the potential marketability and economic potential.

Heritage stones are building and ornamental stones that have special significance in human culture. The papers in this volume discuss a wide variety of such materials, including stones from Europe, Asia, North and South America, Africa and Australia. Igneous (basalt, porphyry, granite), sedimentary (sandstone, limestone) and metamorphic (marble, quartzite, gneiss, soapstone, slate) stones are featured.
