Children are already learning at birth, and they develop and learn at a rapid pace in their early years. This provides a critical foundation for lifelong progress, and the adults who provide for the care and the education of young children bear a great responsibility for their health, development, and learning. Despite the fact that they share the same objective - to nurture young children and secure their future success - the various practitioners who contribute to the care and the education of children from birth through age 8 are not acknowledged as a workforce unified by the common knowledge and competencies needed to do their jobs well. Transforming the Workforce for Children Birth Through Age 8 explores the science of child development, particularly looking at implications for the professionals who work with children. This report examines the current capacities and practices of the workforce, the settings in which they work, the policies and infrastructure that set qualifications and provide professional learning, and the government agencies and other funders who support and oversee these systems. This book then makes recommendations to improve the quality of professional practice and the practice environment for care and education professionals. These detailed recommendations create a blueprint for action that builds on a unifying foundation of child development and early learning, shared knowledge and competencies for care and education professionals, and principles for effective professional learning. Young children thrive and learn best when they have secure, positive relationships with adults who are knowledgeable about how to support their development and learning and are responsive to their individual progress. Transforming the Workforce for Children Birth Through Age 8 offers guidance on system changes to improve the quality of professional practice, specific actions to improve professional learning systems and workforce development, and research to continue to build the knowledge base in ways that will directly advance and inform future actions. The recommendations of this book provide an opportunity to improve the quality of the care and the education that children receive, and ultimately improve outcomes for children.

A cutting-edge handbook for parents from a pioneer in infant brain development Should you really read to your baby? Can teaching a baby sign language boost IQ? Should you pipe classical music into the nursery? Dr. Stamm translates the latest neuroscience findings into clear explanations and practical suggestions, demonstrating the importance of the simple ways you interact with your child every day. It isn’t the right “edu-tainment” that nurtures an infant’s brain. It is as simple as Attention, Bonding, and Communication, and it’s within every parent’s ability to provide. Practical games and tips for each developmental age group will show you not only what the latest findings are but, more importantly, tell you what to do with them.

Why is our method still the best today? Taylor Swift, the famous singer-songwriter, was taught with our Montessori method, which recently also conquered the English principles, proving with facts that it is still today the best educational method in the world, chosen and loved by talented people and success. Today you can use our method at home easily !! George Clooney, a famous actor; Jimmy Wales, Founder of Wikipedia; Gabriel Garcia Marquez, author of the Nobel Prize in Literature. And many others were educated through the Montessori method. Between 0 and 6 years, the child's mind is very different from the adult one. Montessori defines this period as the years of the ABSORBENT MIND; in this VERY DELICATE PHASE, the child, without defenses, has the extraordinary ability to absorb all stimuli, both positive and negative. THE STIMULI WILL FORM HIM for good or bad and will profoundly affect his adult life, leading him to achieve success or failure. The baby's development is not simply making him grow; the formation of an infant is much more complex than what many think. It cannot be entrusted to advise or the thought of knowing how to educate. Many guides do not know how to relate to the child, compromising his development forever. IT IS OF VITAL IMPORTANCE that those who educate the child give the correct stimuli for good emotional, physical, and psychological growth in this period. The "Montessori Method" has always been the BEST ANSWER TO EDUCATIONAL NEEDS; helping a child can be a joyful, stimulating or frustrating, and depressing experience. Fostering the harmonious development of your child's talents, attitudes, and potential, IT ALL DEPENDS ON YOU. In this comprehensive guide, you will learn: How to harness the potential of the absorbing mind What materials to use and when to offer them to the child. You will see 101+ SIMPLE LEARNING ACTIVITIES divided by age groups. In addition, I have selected for your precious child the best simple activities that have given us the most positive results. I have reserved for you: Many tips and food for thought, with DEEP TOPICS A point of view NOT ONLY FOR THE MOTHER. It does not contain generic content that you can find on the Internet. Full of practical recommendations for engaging young children’s brains with the physical world around them, this volume will connect strongly with educators and caregivers alike.” —Mariale Hardiman, interim dean, School of Education, Johns Hopkins University “As we learn more and more from neuroscience about the development of the infant brain, two things have become clear: how competent babies are, and how much they depend on relationships to frame their early development. In her new book Ann Lewin-Benham helps us to understand how to respectfully relate to the developing brain.” —J. Ronald Lally, co-director, Center for Child & Family Studies, WestEd

PLAY LEARN GROW is a practical guide that will help to ensure that your baby's early years do not just slip away - and with them the amazing opportunity to shape a little body, emotions and thought patterns. The book is packed with stimulating ideas that will develop your baby or toddler's brain optimally, in a playful way and without any undue pressure, during the first three years. Babies and toddlers develop so quickly that what is fun today is boring tomorrow. Regardless of whether or not your baby or toddler attends a stimulation class, the activities in PLAY LEARN GROW are age-appropriate and correspond to the latest research in development and the brain. In addition, each age-related phase concludes with a checklist that offers you the assurance that your little one is progressing. Faster is not better but progress is important and fun. And with a caring adult, it is the best brain food for birth to 3 year olds. Come play with us! Come learn with us! Come grow with us! We are often too busy and distracted - or in too much of a hurry to stop and simply enjoy the moment, but a baby, infant or toddler knows exactly how to make us stop and pay attention to all the wonders of the world that are right there, before our eyes. It is in those moments, the ones where we make eye contact with our baby or when we hear their giggles of utter delight at the simplest of things, that time stands still and we feel truly special and blessed. All our distractions disappear into the background and these moments become the ones that really matter. Our young ones need us, and depend on us, to be able to laugh out loud, to play, to sometimes just be silly, and of course - to be clever.

How we raise young children is one of today's most highly personalized and sharply politicized issues, in part because each of us can claim some level of "expertise." The debate has intensified as discoveries about our development-in the womb and in the first months and years-have reached the popular media. How can we use our burgeoning knowledge to assure the well-being of all young children, for their own sake as well as for the sake of our nation? Drawing from new findings, this book presents important conclusions about nature-versus-nurture, the impact of being born into a working family, the effect of politics on programs for children, the costs and benefits of intervention, and other issues. The committee issues a series of challenges to decision makers regarding the quality of child care, issues of racial and ethnic diversity, the integration of children's cognitive and emotional development, and more. Authoritative yet accessible, From Neurons to Neighborhoods presents the evidence about "brain wiring" and how kids learn to speak, think, and regulate their behavior. It examines the effect of the climate-family, child care, community-within which the child grows.
