There are wide ranges of factors related to management, employees, organisation and the workplace which make it a complex and challenging job to motivate employees in an organisation. Therefore, different strategies and methods should be used by the organisation and human resource managers to motivate employees. There are different needs and expectations for an employee to join any organisation. Monetary and non-monetary factors are used by human resource managers to achieve different employee and organisation related objectives. The present research works investigates the impact of motivation on the performance of employees in Ramchandrapur High School. Descriptive method and questionnaires embedded with Likert scale was used as main instruments for collecting necessary data to carry out this research work. Data is collected from the sample size of 50 where faculty members, employee assistants, office helpers, and employees in training and security personnel were included. The critical review of the literature and the quantitative analysis of the survey data pointed that both extrinsic and intrinsic motivational factors play an important role in motivating employees. The study revealed that salary is the most effective motivational factor among various extrinsic and intrinsic motivational factors like job security, advancement in career, the good relationship among co-workers, achievement sense, training and development and sense of recognition. The study further reveals that level of motivation among the employees of Ramchandrapur High School is low as compared to the expectation of employees. Although both extrinsic and intrinsic factors are responsible for motivating employees in an organisation, this study reveals that employees of Ramchandrapur High School are motivated more by extrinsic factors than by intrinsic ones. The management of the school should focus more towards satisfying the extrinsic need of employees to hold the employees for long which subsequently helps to increase the quality of the output produced by it.

Decades of research indicate the important connections among academic motivation and achievement, social relationships, and school culture. However, much of this research has been conducted in homogenous American schools serving middle class, average achieving, Anglo-student populations. This edited volume will argue that school culture is a reflection of the society in which the school is embedded and comprises various aspects, including individualism, competition, cultural stereotypes, and extrinsically guided values and rewards. They address three specific conceptual questions: How do differences in academic motivation for diverse groups of students change over time? This paper examines the effect of grades on student motivation and performance. I conduct a randomized field experiment on 372 sixth graders in Sweden where students complete a math test with the possibility of winning a prize if performing adequately. The students were assigned to three groups with different instructions on how their performance was assessed. Students in treatment 1 (criterion-based grading) and treatment 2 (norm-based grading) were informed that in addition to their performance, their previous grades would also impact their chances of winning the prize whilst students in the control group were not. The results indicate a negative average causal effect of grades on student motivation and performance. This is the case regardless of whether the grading system in place is criterion-based or norm-based. The negative effect of grades also differs across the grade distribution, where students with lower grades are affected more negatively. Thus, the results of this paper call into question the role and application of grades in their current form around the world.

The purpose of this study was to compare student motivation and student engagement in music making across two groups of high school students. The first group of students (n = 27) was enrolled exclusively in a curricular band ensemble that primarily uses traditional, teacher-centered learning practices (TCLP). The second group (n = 16) was from the same school and enrolled in an extra-curricular orchestral ensemble that incorporates informal learning practices (ILP; Green, 2006) into the experience. Student surveys, the Music Self-Determination Scale (MacIntyre & Potter, 2014), and the Willingness to Play Scale (MacIntyre & Potter, 2014) were used to capture student motivation and musical engagement. T-tests were used to determine whether statistically significant and meaningful differences existed between groups; multivariate regressions were used to predict student engagement in music making activities based on the interaction between learning practice (TCLP vs. ILP) and motivation type (intrinsic, integrated, introjected, and extrinsic regulation).Results suggested several benefits to student participation in groups that emphasize informal learning, including a statistically significant increase in student- reported desire to engage in music making outside the classroom for students enrolled in the ILP group relative to students enrolled in the TCLP group. In addition, participation in the ILP group (as opposed to the TCLP group) was particularly beneficial in fostering a desire to engage in music making activities for students who reported low levels of intrinsic or integrated regulation; these findings were also significant, yielding p-values of less than 0.05. Finally, participation in the ILP group was found to significantly increase student willingness to perform musically, so long as the student reported high levels of integrated motivation. However, students who participated in the ILP group and reported low levels of integrated motivation were significantly less willing to perform musically, compared to both high-integrated motivation students enrolled in the ILP group and low-integrated motivation students enrolled in the TCLP group. I hope that the current study fosters future research on the role of music teaching style and student motivation across various behavioral, cognitive, and emotional outcomes relevant to the field of music education.

Academic motivation is a key factor in students' academic and behavioral success in school. Previous research has demonstrated strong relationships between disciplinary events and academic performance, as well as between academic performance and academic motivation. However, there is limited understanding of the relationship between academic motivation and disciplinary events, or how academic motivation, academic performance, and disciplinary events are related. The purpose of this study was to examine student self-ratings of their academic motivation in grades 9-12 in a public high school, and to investigate the associations and interactive relationships between these three variables. Participants (N=78) completed the Academic Resilience Scale School (Cassidy, 2016) and school records were accessed for data on disciplinary events and academic performance. Using linear regression, the relationships between disciplinary events and academic performance, academic motivation and academic performance, and disciplinary events and academic motivation were analyzed. It was shown that disciplinary events were significantly associated with lower ratings of academic motivation and lower academic performance. Higher academic motivation was significantly associated with higher academic performance. Additionally, academic motivation was found to be a significant partial mediator on the relationship between disciplinary events and academic performance. Students who had disciplinary events, but reported high academic motivation, were found to have higher academic performance than students who reported lower academic motivation. Limitations of the study, implications for the field, and future directions will also be discussed.
