El Cuadro independiente de Expertos Eminentes sobre la Etica en la Alimentacion y la Agricultura fue establecido por el Director General de la FAO para asesorar a la Organizacion y sensibilizar al publico sobre consideraciones eticas relacionadas con asuntos tan vitales como la seguridad alimentaria para las generaciones presentes y futuras y la ordenacion sostenible de los limitados recursos de la Tierra. La contribucion del Cuadro de Expertos tanto a la labor de la Organizacion como al mas amplio debate internacional es muy significativa en un momento en que importantes acontecimientos en la alimentacion y la agricultura, en particular progresos tecnologicos cada vez mas rapidos, cambios en la base de recursos y mecanismos economicos y de mercado en evolucion, han hecho que una variedad de cuestiones eticas ocupen un lugar destacado. En este primer informe, el Cuadro de Expertos analiza las principales cuestiones y desafios a los cuales hace frente la humanidad hoy en dia, que incluyen la necesidad de un sistema alimentario y agricola equitativo y etico y las condiciones que permiten aumentar al maximo el potencial de las biotecnologias modernas y contener, al mismo tiempo, sus riesgos. Las opiniones expresadas -algunas de las cuales pueden ser discutibles- y las conclusiones a que se llega en este informe son las de sus miembros independientes, y no son necesariamente compartidas por la Organizacion o sus Estados Miembros. Sin embargo, las tesis planteadas deberian estimular un debate racional y bien fundamentado que profundice nuestra comprension de las cuestiones eticas de la alimentacion y la agricultura y facilite su plena consideracion por los responsables de la toma de decisiones en todos los niveles."

Justice as Prevention: Vetting Public Employees in Transitional Societies examines the transitional reform known as "vetting"-the process by which abusive or corrupt employees are excluded from public office. More than a means of punishing individuals, vetting represents an important transitional justice measure aimed at reforming institutions and preventing the recurrence of abuses. The book is the culmination of a multiyear project headed by the International Center for Transitional Justice that included human rights lawyers, experts on police and judicial reform, and scholars of transitional justice and reconciliation.
