Seminar paper from the year 2020 in the subject Business economics - Operations Research, grade: 2,0, University of applied sciences Frankfurt a. M., course: MBA, language: English, abstract: This essay is concerned with an evaluation of the mission and vision statements of the ING Bank. What does the "best bank" do and are mission and/or vision statements related to the strategy and success? "The World's Best Banks: ING And Citibank Lead The Way", is the title of an article published in the Forbes magazine in March 2019. The author cites ING`s Head of global retail banking, Ignacio Juliá Vilar, with the following: “The mission of ING is for our customers to stay a step ahead in life and business,” Since she read this article the author knew that she wanted to find out more about ING ́s mission and how it is related to the success of the bank. Therefore, this assignment will start with the general introduction and the definition of mission and visions statement. To make this topic more explicit we will investigate the mission and the vision statements of ING Bank more closely. The interpretation in 3.2 Evaluation of ING ́s mission and vision statements of the mission and vision statement are done freely without any insight information, only public available sources were used here. It follows that interpretation can differ from ING ́s actual interpretation. Next to that a summary of the current banking environment will be given to complete the challenges and opportunities for the bank. To bring mission and vision statement together with strategy the Balances Scorecard developed by Robert S. Kaplan and David P. Norton will be introduced. It will be used as a tool to translate mission and vision into goals and actions. Next to that the Balances Scorecard extends the financial perspective with the customer, the internal business processes and the learning and growth perspective to measure and manage the tangible and intangible assets of the bank.

This is the eBook version of the printed book. Read the following excerpt from Rethink, Chapter 8: Revolutionary Rethinking at ING DIRECT. In the time of theRoman Empire, money changers set up shop in courtyards where they conducted their business on a long bench called a bancu. In Renaissance Florence, business loans were made across a banco, a desk covered by a green cloth. So it was inevitable that the builders of the echoing 19th century marble temples to Mammon, intent on awing the public as well as their commercial clients, would call their edifices “banks.” And if any single word described the banking process in those days, it was “static.” Bankers were set in their ways. The 20th century ushered in change that shook up the bankers’ world. Technology in the form of wire transfers, telephone banking, and the ATM transformed many of the “hows” in the industry. Banks began to shed their awesome trappings, woo their customers, and imitate retail stores. Then, in the new millennium, still another shock wave rippled across traditional banking operations in the United States: It was called ING DIRECT USA, an online bank that had rethought its business, deciding to put aside the “hows” and, instead, focus obsessively on the rapid shift in the “whats” that had become most valuable to customers. This revolutionary bank has become a role model for creative cost-cutting and significant innovation. Based in Wilmington, Delaware, ING DIRECT USA is a division of the Dutch conglomerate ING Groep NV, an insurance and banking colossus. ING DIRECT, launched in September 2000 by its chairman, president, and CEO Arkadi Kuhlmann. To continue reading, purchase and download now.

Judgment by the Spanish Audencia Nacional (Sala de Lo Contencioso), judgment date 10 July 2015. The taxpayer was a Netherlands bank conducting direct banking in Spain through a permanent establishment (PE). A tax inspection was carried out and the inspectors attributed to the PE "free capital" in proportion to the transactions carried out by the PE sufficient to fulfil Directive 2000/12/EC on minimum resources. The tax authorities therefore made an adjustment to the tax return said to be based on the terms of the Spanish-Dutch Double Taxation Agreement attributing to the PE profits corresponding to those of a totally independent company. The taxpayer objected that the tax authorities were applying interpretations of the OECD Model approved in 2008 to the tax years 2002 and 2003. The issue in this case is whether the authorised OECD approach for the attribution of profits to a PE, adopted by the OECD in a Report in 2008 (with a finalised version in 2010), could be applied to the branch of a bank for the years 2002 and 2003. This in turn depended on whether changes to the OECD Commentaries made in 2010 could be applied retrospectively.

The book offers a new angle on long-standing questions about the categorial status of English participles and gerunds. The book makes a major point: participles are not verb forms which behave like adjectives, but actually are adjectives, linked with verbs via derivation. It argues that observed differences between participles and adjectives, which in the past have prompted linguists to draw a category distinction between them, are in reality due to the non-prototypical semantics of participles – a feature also found in other types of adjectives, with strikingly identical effects. This analysis then accounts for the word formation of adjectives such as boring, tired, drunk, which has always been mysterious. The book investigates the consequences of this analysis for our understanding of gerunds and V-ing-N compounds. With its comprehensive study of -ing forms, the book calls into question a number of widely-held assumptions – regarding the distinction between derivation and inflection, and the role of semantics in syntactic and morphological analysis. This book is of great interest to researchers and students in linguistics interested in morphology, syntax, semantics, lexical categorisation.

The study is concerned with the issue of -ing forms in both the theoretical aspect (morpho-syntactic delimitation of the scalar range of -ing forms) and practical aspect (survey of their occurrence in a legal English corpus). The research concentrates on the syntactic analysis of -ing verbal nouns, gerunds and -ing participles, and is aimed to reveal the conditioning factors that influence the selection of a particular type of the nominalisations under analysis.
