Dieses Buch erforscht die Wirkung unterstützender Akteure im Bereich Corporate Citizenship (CC). Hierzu werden insbesondere die von diesen übernommenen Aufgaben sowie die eingenommene Rolle herangezogen. Zudem wird untersucht, welche Form von Corporate Citizenship gefördert wird; dabei wird vornehmlich zwischen einem eingeschränkten und einem erweiterten Corporate Citizenship differenziert. Die angestellten Forschungen weisen darauf hin, dass die bestehenden unterstützenden Akteure (u.a. so genannte Mittlerorganisationen) hauptsächlich die Rolle von Intermediären einnehmen. Aus (Transaktions-)Kostensicht ist dies zwar durchaus sehr vorteilhaft, führt jedoch lediglich zu einem eingeschränkten Corporate Citizenship. Die meisten CC-Mittler selbst befürworten jedoch – wie die Empirie zeigt – einen erweiterten CC-Ansatz. Ein dafür notwendiger tiefgreifender Wandlungsprozess der Unternehmen lässt sich mit der Rolle des Intermediärs jedoch nicht unterstützen. Vielmehr werden dadurch Rahmenbedingungen und Anreizsysteme geschaffen, die ein derartiges Corporate Citizenship blockieren. Folglich bedarf es hierfür einer anderen Rolle, die den Fokus auf die Unterstützung der Unternehmen bei Entwicklungs- und Lernprozessen (Double-Loop-Learning) legt. Dies lässt sich durch die Begleitung als Change Agent verwirklichen. Letztlich hängt die Wirkung der unterstützenden Akteure somit entscheidend vom Verständnis von Corporate Citizenship ab.
