Il dott. Roccia, professore di Semeiotica Chirurgica dell'Università di Torino, è stato il Fondatore della Società Italiana di Riflessoterapia-Agopuntura nel 1972, della Scuola di Agopuntura ad essa associata e dell'Istituto Italiano di Agopuntura, centro di ricerca clinica e sperimentale. E' stato il primo medico occidentale ad essere invitato dall'Accademia di Medicina Tradizionale Cinese a tenere un seminario sulla sua esperienza in Agopuntura, presso l'Istituto Superiore di Agopuntura di Pechino nel dicembre del 1973. "In questi ultimi anni ho avuto molte richieste da parte di medici che mi richiedono in continuazione la ristampa del mio libro "Insegnamenti di Agopuntura" scritto nel lontano 1975 per gli studenti di medicina per il "Corso Libero di Riflessoterapia.. Agopuntura" approvato dalla Facoltà di Medicina di Torino nell'ambito del mio corso ufficiale di Semeiotica Chirurgica, corso in seguito condotto anche da me presso la Facoltà di Medicina di Cagliari e di Catania. Il corso tenuto era stato impostato sul manuale pratico che ogni medico cinese aveva studiato per poter affrontare la maggior parte delle patologie dove l'Agopuntura poteva giocare un ruolo terapeutico importante. Manuale di semplice consultazione dove accanto all'Agopuntura pratica, insieme a colleghi di provenienza Universitaria, avevamo dato una interpretazione anatomica e neurofisiologica sulle basi terapeutiche di questa tecnica . Libro allora molto apprezzato per la sua semplicità di consultazione nella pratica medica di ogni giorno. Le basi anatomiche e neurofisiologiche allora presentate si sono arricchite negli ultimi anni di migliaia di ricerche scientifiche che tirano in ballo il sistema immunitario, la psicoimmunoterapia e molti altri ruoli del sistema neurologico ed endocrino."

The Active Points Test is a clinical instrument for identifying and selecting the points on the skin that are most effective for treatment. These points may be close to the seat of the disease, for example on the shoulder for periarthritis, or far away, for example on the ear or head for stomach pain or a cough.
