This open access collection is the first to investigate the poetry of Instagram. Alongside academic essays from a variety of theoretical perspectives, it also includes accounts from people actually involved in the creation and circulation of Instapoems. In the 21st century, poetry enjoyed a publishing boom, largely thanks to the rise of a cohort of writers labelled “Instapoets” – named after the Instagram platform where many of them first became famous. The work of these writers has been controversial with other poets and literary critics, who argue that their product is in some way not really poetry: at the same time, Instapoets have reached new audiences, held sold-out readings, and been deeply loved by their fans. In this collection, writers ask how we can approach poems marked by such extreme simplicity. Can we see them as being products of their platform, created to satisfy the algorithm? Might we read their interaction with the digital environment through their hashtags? What importance should we ascribe to the high number of Instapoets from immigrant and other frequently excluded groups? What can we make of the contrast between the capitalist hustle of influencer poetry and the frequent insistence in Instapoetry on the deeply personal? Can Instapoems be generated automatically? What do they tell us about affects of the digital age? The ebook editions of this book are available open access under a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence onbloomsburycollections.com.

Instapoetry is one of the most popular literary phenomena of our time. In just a few years, millions of short to ultra-short texts have been published and shared on Instagram. In the battle for attention with countless other texts, the mechanisms of the platform and the usage routines of the users have to be served. The external pressure on literary production is immense. The book explains the production strategies and reception procedures of Instapoetry, explains its development and locates its significance - somewhere between the last stage of decay and the future of poetry.

Inshallah claims its place amongst social media poetry and Instagram sensations like Rupi Kaur. These poems are like perfect cups and inside each is something essential. Personal, observational, and confessional, Inshallah carries themes of self-care, romance, unrequited love, potent femininity, and resiliency. At times, these poems are self-aware and conversational, but there are private moments of self-preservation and self-love, too, reminding us of what it takes to withstand relationships. From romance to motherhood to friendships, these poems refuse to be possessed or destroyed—they explore what it means to navigate love without losing oneself. Inshallah is for the modern reader: no doubt you will find yourself in these pages and understand something about your life that you hadn’t before.

Instapoetry is for all poetry enthusiasts, and anyone else who has an opinion on the art form. The author unleashes his pen holding court, prosecuting the classicalists, the so-called gate keepers or poetry police in defence of the instapoets. Then turns on the instapoets for their work and work ethic. The author takes aim with his pen, trolling both sides as never before seen, will they dare to reply? This publication is unlike anything seen before in the world of poetry.

Plum written by Hollie McNish and has been published by Pan Macmillan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-06-15 with Poetry categories.

A wise, rude, sharp poetry collection encompassing a life from childhood to attempted adulthood, from one of the most important poets of the new generation. 'She writes with honesty, conviction, humour and love. She points out the absurdities we've grown too used to and lets us see the world with fresh eyes.' – Kae Tempest Hollie McNish, winner of the Ted Hughes Award for Poetry, has thrilled and entranced audiences the length and breadth of the UK with her compelling and powerful performances. Plum, her debut for Picador Poetry, is a wise, sometimes rude and piercingly candid account of her memories from childhood to attempted adulthood. This is a book about growing up, about flesh, fruit, friendships, work and play – and the urgent need to find a voice for the poems that will somehow do the whole glorious riot of it justice. Throughout Plum, McNish allows her recent poems to be interrupted by earlier writing from her younger selves – voices that speak out from the past with disarming and often very funny results. Plum is a celebration, a salute to a life in which we are always growing, stumbling, falling, changing and discovering new selves to add to our own messy store. It will leave the reader in no doubt as to why McNish is considered one of the most important poets of the new generation.
